charity bike ride from keepmoat to brentford
« on February 20, 2013, 12:07:48 am by ponte_ricky »
Hi everyone

Myself and wiltsrover are going to be cycling from doncaster to brentford for the final away game of the season to raise money for bluebell wood childrens hospice.

We're going to set off on the friday afternoon and cycle through the night to make the game on saturday afternoon. Its about 180 miles so it should be pretty challenging.

I just thought i'd post the info pages.

I also post updates on twitter @ponte_ricky17

Please spread the word.

Thanks everyone,

Ricky

Quick update on training for those who may be interested, Ricky has been putting in the hard miles on the turbo trainers during the winter. I have gone for a more relaxed approach by sitting on the sofa reading Cycling Weekly - tactics which came in handy for a 150km ride through the snow and ice in the Brecon Beacons yesterday. Very senic.

What route will you be taking ? Straight down the A1  ? or are you avoiding the major/main roads

We're doing the danny mills route. not much of the a1. Might be a little risky. Plus the country lanes will be more interesting.

For my current winter training rides I have a Bianchi Via Nirone C2C, c2007 vintage, with upgraded Campagnolo Chorus groupset and Mavic wheels (just less than £400 of ebay)

For the ride I will be on my Mekk 3G Potenza SL 105 - of which I am probably not worthy
http://www.mekkbicycles.com/Potenza-SL-5.0-105.aspx

So ordinary 'sportive' racing bike for me (a sportive bike is slightly more upright than a full racer) but not quite a touring bike, which would be more upright still. And probably more sensible.

i got tempted to buy a carbon bike for this but my girlfriend wont let me haha. i'm just going to upgrade my wheels to some fulcrum 5's. using a pinnacle dolomite 2 which is an aluminium frame with tiagra groupset. not too bad but i think i'll upgrade next year.

i'm going to be setting out tomorrow for a training ride across the pennines from salford to pontefract.  always a tough ride.

As someone was asking me today about the ride I thought I would give it a bump up the forum. Does anyone have a twitter address for Danny Mills btw?
