Hi BST

Yes 2009-10 saw us finish above the Owls for the first time.

There are surprisingly few new 'scalps', partly because we finished mid-table in Division 2 a couple of time in the early 1950's and were above many teams then.

The only 3 other recent 'scalps' are finishing above Huddersfield for the first time in 2003-4, Leeds for the first time in 2007-8 and Charlton in 2008-9. However both Leeds and Charlton were not in the League when we played in the second Division in 1901 so in some ways we were higher than them at that point.   Also there was at least one season (1923-4) in which we finished higher than Charlton in our parallel Regionalised 3rd Division (9th in Div 3 North as opposed to 14th in Div 3S)

P.S. We were quite close to finishing above Middlesboro for the first time in 2009-10 - we were above them after 40 games of the season

Actually I just see I have made a small error - we actually finished one place above Huddersfield in 1976-7 in Division 4 (8th over 9th) - the only other time we finished above them before 2003-4.

So only Owls, Leeds and Charlton recently

with a couple more swings this week ( Hull stay in Championship , Barnsley relegated ) when the first league table comes out we will be top team in Yorkshire - Alphabetically granted  but it might last a game or two!
