My son lives in Ipswich and he says that they were really impressed with his contribution last season to the point where they asked the Leicester about his availability.
I am a big fan of Wellens. In my view we have lacked someone to consistently make the killer pass since he left.
Welcome him back with open arms.

I think the question is "Is he better than Woods and Harper?"

Wouldn't quite say amazing but certainly decent, pleased Furman is signing we needed to sign him doubt Wellens will be the player we had a few years ago but if he gets fit could be decent for the team.

According to the Leicester Mercury, preliminary negotiations have already begun.
The main stumbling block will be, I suspect, money. Wellens has just over a year left on his contract so presumably Leicester will want a fee, and he will be on good money there, which is why he left in the first place.
As he is now 33, I wonder how long we would get out of him? One season? Two tops?

Fingers crossed if Leicester want him off their wages then they may be willing to let him leave for free to get something done quickly.

Has Leicester have already released him I doubt that they could demand a huge sum?

It partly depends on how we play. SODs possession game and all that passing through midfield suited Wellens I reckon.

Our midfield was never the same when he left. Even Brian Stock could not reach his dizzy heights after his minder left. He is older i agree but he has experience in this division and hopefully we can sign him. He will be able to guide Furman and any young midfield players we can get. Lets hope now the cat is out the bag his signing happens and not just a worm to catch more season tickets.

Why cant he be DRFC Version of Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes, or  Kevin Phillips, jesus he is 33 not 43.

I'm not sure Wellens has had quite the same career extending diet and yoga regime of Ryan Giggs... But  you would think so long as he's reasonably fit his touch and footballing brain would enable him to compete at this level for a while yet.

If we could bring in Wellens cheap enough alongside Furman and a season loan of Lundstram our midfield will be extremely solid. Those three added to Keegan, Syers, Cotterill, Copps and Bennett. We'll have just about everything. Then add in any of the young lads if they're good enough. That should definitely compete at Championship level.

Actually, re my point about a fee - isn't he a free agent now? He signed a 4 year deal with LCFC in the summer of 2009 didn't he? The end of our first championship season. Did he extend whilst he was there?

Extended his deal in 2011 because he impressed. This new deal was 'lucrative' says DFP.

Not sure "released" is right word, he was told he should "Find himself another club" as he didn't feature in LCFC plans. So, as he is under contract still, they may demand a fee, small it may be, in order to "Move him on".
Wages is certainly going to be a stumbling block though, if Wellans wages kept pace with Mills wages at Reading and Leicester and Bolton, he will be on more than 20K a week. BIG BIG Drop required there.
