In a recent conversation about 'fan engagement' with a CEO at a football club he made the  point that no matter how many concessions he made to supporters, no matter how many changes they implemented, football fans would never be happy and would find fault with something. I'm beginning to understand what he means.

What do you mean  "beginning"  you should have realised ages ago

The club hasn't suggested any of the names though and we're still running with the initiative.

I'm also very angry about the situation but we have to get this into context, and not let this cloud the many other good decisions that are being made (Probably by the same people/person).

Let's see what happens.

In the context of this, that's out of order too.

Recall the shirt designs and the response when JR wanted to submit a design? It's about a principle.

You either give it over to the fans and let common sense prevail or you 'interfere' and lose credibility in the process. Of all people Martin I would have thought you would have seen this differently.

I thank you though for taking it back to discuss it further.

Wheres the humour gone? Its not like we have named a stand, just a small home end concourse bar to make us smile, nothing more nothing less

Not sure I agree totally Baz. The club are giving it over to the fans, but with a couple of provisions, that's all.
For example, if we all voted to call the bar "All Dingles are Cun*s" bar, the club wouldn't accept it as a valid option. It wouldn't give the vote any less credibility, it just means the club wouldn't accept that as an option.

In this instance, the club are given the fans the chance to put their preferred Bar Names forward, with just a couple of rules. You can think of any bar name you want, as long as it's not offensive, or mentions "Brentford Crossbar" or Trotta. By the club giving us this chance, it doesn't give us the right to dictate to them the rules of their own competition?

Saying that, after we speak to the club again they may, hopefully, change their mind, as I think it would be pretty cool to order a pint from Trottas Bar

Can you add the Champions Bar and the LJS Bar to the poll please.

I've added Champions Bar for you. IMO not sure we should add the option of LJS Bar - what do others think?  :ermm:

IMO I also agree that it's probably not the right way to pay tribute.

What is we capitalised the B on Bar, and replaced the asterisk with a t?

Interesting then, that in the club's official 'End of Season DVD', they decided to include a clip of the Rovers players singing "Marcello Trotta, he hit the crossbar".

I think we've got our message over on this emotive subject. I trust the lads when they say they'll take it up with the club again.

I agree with you to an extent. I'm not saying I want the bars to be called anything to do with Brentford or the cross bar. I'm just wondering why that was included in the official DVD if the club are so insistent that they won't do anything that is seen to be rubbing Brentford's noses in it?

Seems like inconsistency in standards to me, but eh, what do I know?

I'm glad that people are standing up for the Brentford crossbar to be included in the poll, surely it is only light hearted humour about "that moment"! I was starting to think my idea of O'Driscoll's Tea Bar was maybe offensive though it is added in the poll. Someone picked up on my idea and recognised it as light hearted humour and in no way a dig at one of our clubs greatest managers.

Interesting then, that in the club's official 'End of Season DVD', they decided to include a clip of the Rovers players singing "Marcello Trotta, he hit the crossbar".

I would guess the individuals at the club overseeing the concourse refurbishment aren't also in charge of DVD editing. I would also make the point the DVD is a completely different project, both in size, scale and who it is targetted at to the naming of the concourse bars.

Let's see what the club say when we go back to them.

I disagree. They're both for the supporters are they not? Somebody has argued that no Brentford fans will see the name of the bar, but it's unlikely that they will see the DVD as well.

I'm not bothered who is involved either. If "the club" (whatever that term has come to mean - who is "the club") are so keen not to mock Brentford by including any reference to the missed penalty in its official products, then somebody at the club should have run a closer rule over what made it into the final DVD cut.

Like I've said before, I'm not campaigning for the "Brentford Cross bar" to be included in the poll, because I don't agree with it on the same basis as the club. But I also happen to have noticed that it IS included in another club project, which would suggest to me that the club aren't as eager to make sure they are nice to Brentford as they appear in this matter.

Doesn't make a difference what I think of the double standards on show anyway. They can't exactly recall all the DVD's they've sold and edit that bit out, and I doubt that the "Brentford Cross Bar" will ever be added to the poll, so I suppose I'm making a moot point.

Why so much over-reaction? In a place where the posters get annoyed at every tiny
little comment in the press does it not work both ways. I think some need to realise that IRWT gives fans a big say in lots of these things Ie naming bars etc. But it doesn't mean that all of it's 100 percent right and whilst lots is listened to you can't have everything.  We've a chance to have a say where the club guys have asked for one or two exceptions which is fair surely? You have to take this chance as if tiny little exceptions are focussed on that much then the opportunity may disappear again.

Also I personally think the whole Brentford thing is tacky and cheap.  I'd much prefer to think about other moments in history.

I still think all we are asking for here is "The Cross Bar" which would be less upsetting/disturbing to anyone than mentioning the clubs name
