Vote For Your Favourite Concourse Bar Names
« on June 19, 2013, 08:32:58 pm by bobjimwilly »
As with the voting for the shirts, we will be passing the results of this poll to the club, who will then use the results in the final stage of voting that will be open to all DROS users, Facebook users etc.

We've collated as many suggestions from this thread as we could find, but if you want to suggest any more feel free to do so and we'll add them to the list above. You have up to 8 choices to make.

Please note:

The club have already said that, unfortunately, they will not be naming any of the bar/food outlets after the Brentford Cross Bar, Trotta, etc.

Still think "the cross bar" would have been a good choice.

The club can't use that. Would you expect them to belittle a fellow football league club?

I like that, but I'm not sure the younger generation would get it.

You saying I'm not hip-daddy-cool with the contemporary youth scene?

We did mention it to the club, and they would love to do something to commemorate that particular day and that event, and they probably will, but not naming a bar after it. However the name 'crossbar' can't be seen as offensive to anyone, so it might be worth another chat with the club.

The word 'Crossbar' offensive? Does it offend brentford fans? Whats next take down the Rovers flag in fear of offending a dingle. This is Football for f#@k sake!

So that makes it ok does it? The word crossbar isn't offensive in itself but to use the name 'brentford crossbar' would certainly be a cheap shot at another club.

How you equate that with a rovers flag upsetting anybody is beyond me, I can't see the logic in that part of your argument.

The decision to omit 'The Brentford Cross bar' is corporate PC madness.

Brentford = The place where it happened
Cross Bar - The object that made it happen

How the f**ck is that offensive or derogatory to people of Brentford?

If we were to gave suggested 'Brentford FC are crap bar" then I can understand this would not be in good taste.

Does that mean we could not use a reference to Wembley or Stoke as it would be deemed to be offensive to Leeds and Dagenham Fans respectively?

I think a chat is in order and suspend the vote until a very good suggestion is put back in it's rightful place and let it go with the public vote!

Whether it gets picked or not is another matter!

Its part of our history. In our concourse where no brentford fan would be to get offended. Its not a cheap shot, just a reminder to rovers fans while waiting for pint to put a smile on there faces. Your argument just sounds abit dramatic imo. Football, win some loose some. We deal with it. Football chants in the face of the opposition can be a thousand times worse but the fans take it on the chin and deal with it

I have made my selection with one proviso, that is IF we are allowed to use   "The Cross Bar", I would change my vote from VSC Bar to  Cross Bar.

And another thing, if the club is going to do an event or whatever to commemorate the event 'the cross bar' does that not ammount to the same offence?

I didn't say it was offensive, I said it was a cheap shot and belittles a fellow football club.

And it's not about the fans and chants, it's about the club and its relationship with its fellow football clubs. I'm sure they would enjoy meeting up at future football league meetings!!

And the current Brentford Chairman is taking over at the FA in the next few weeks. How to make friends and influence people!

However, if you all think its ok to do so I'll go back to the club and ask.

Why do you need to go back to the club to ask if it can go in an independent survey?
Surely their decision is whether to accept it should it win?

That's because it's not an independent survey, it's being done on behalf of the club.

And in our discussions with the club they said it wouldn't be acceptable, so it was agreed it wouldn't be in the poll.

whilst this may come as a suprise, i agree with Silent.

its very crass to take the piss out of another clubs misfortunes... we are all in this together as clubs, there are many other ways of celebrating that moment, but i dont feel this is an appropriate way.

How is that a cheap shot at a fellow football club? Does anyone really look upon it as such? It's reference to a place where an event happened.

Sad that you think it is a cheap shot mate.

Had the fixture been the other way round, we would not be making reference to Brentford, it would have been the "Keepmoat Cross Bar"

Let's not get carried away and blame the 'club' for this. Someone's made a judgement that can be corrected.

So is it the club or an individual?

In a recent conversation about 'fan engagement' with a CEO at a football club he made the  point that no matter how many concessions he made to supporters, no matter how many changes they implemented, football fans would never be happy and would find fault with something. I'm beginning to understand what he means.
