I have just watched an episode of Inspector George Gently on Public Television over here in the States. I have a question for anyone who has seen the show in the UK, it was on BBC. That question is, "did anyone else notice the resemblance between Martin Shaw who plays Gently and our own John Ryan"? The reason I ask is that if anyone were to write a TV play about the downfall and rise of Doncaster Rovers from the Richardson era to the glory of today, then Martin Shaw would be ideal to play JR. To be honest, it is something that I think Roy Clarke our local TV playwright, could make a good go of. Anybody else any thoughts?

I like Martin Shaw but he could never do John Ryan, Martin has never smiled in his any of his roles, John does a lot of smiling.
