John Ryan's double.
« on July 05, 2013, 03:43:51 am by newyankee »

I have just watched an episode of Inspector George Gently on Public Television over here in the States. I have a question  for anyone who has seen the show in the UK, it was on BBC. That question  is, "did anyone else notice the resemblance between Martin Shaw who plays Gently and our own John Ryan"?

The reason I ask is that if anyone were to write a TV play about the downfall and rise of Doncaster Rovers from the Richardson era to the glory of today, then Martin Shaw would be ideal to play JR.

To be honest, it is something that I think Roy Clarke our local TV playwright, could make a good go of. Anybody else any thoughts?

Liberace was born just a mile down the road from where I now live in Wisconsin, it is the big claim to fame of West Allis, a suburb of Milwaukee.  The other big name from here is Spencer Tracy.

Do you know Yon Yonson?  He works in the timbermill there.

By the way, sorry about this thread, but you resort to anything when there is nothing coming out of the Keepmoat.  I have found a photo of Martin Shaw smiling to put alongside JR, but, as I am computer illiterate I cannot do it. Let's hope for more real news next week!!!!!

If it's the lookalike season, can I just say I was watching the box set of Band Of Brothers again last week and found that a lot of characters in it look like Rovers players (recent/past), something I've noticed a few times but can't get a close up pic of all the BoB characters.

Though looking at the pic below I can easily make out Mark Wilson, Brian Stock, Lee Croft and possibly even James Hayter in a dodgy wig sat down at the front (far right). But there are others.

EDIT: Dean Shiels at the back

Spencer Tracey from Milwaukee eh? Quite tremendous actor. Any of our young listeners fancy a lesson in stunning acting underplay try 'Bad Day at Black Rock' or 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. They don't make em.....

I'm not keen on these lookalike threads, and I'm sure most people reading this one will agree if they, like me are victims of looking like someone famous. It's even worse if you're not sure who your supposed 'lookalike' actually is!

Anyone know who Tom Cruise is?
