I would seriously just try MoneySupermarket.

Although i've been driving quite a while and drive a performance car of sorts (Focus ST), a quick search on there halved my premium for the year this last renewal.

Yeah I'd agree, just try one of the comparison sites, I found my current insurer (Admiral) on comparethemarket years ago and they've been the cheapest for me every since.

You might be in for a shock though, doesn't matter who you go with, it's going to cost a bomb!

I reckon you need to downgrade from the Buggatti Veyron if you're looking for a cheaper quote

ha ha your right filo, i pay around £300 on a 4x4 lexus, the quotes are for my youngest on a 1.2 clio

I know it's frowned upon but I went under my dad's insurance from when I was 17 until I was about 24 and it got a bit more reasonable. I had an F reg Ford Escort that cost me £300 when I passed my test and the cheapest quote we got for me was £1400. Think it cost about £250 under my dad's and he had this magic insurance from CIS that meant anyone with his permission could drive the car. Strangely enough I don't think they do that anymore!!

I was with Endsleigh when I was that age, admittedly 8 years ago now.  For a young one you'll probably have to go just third party and maybe even have them as a second driver.  Though even at my age, my premium reduced by having my Dad listed as second driver (he's never actually driven the car), it's a little bizarre the whole insurance thing IMO.

Also if you buy an old vw beetle you'll find that your insurance with Adrian Flux will be much cheaper again.

Same here, my daughter put me on her insurance and the price came down, so we put her mum on it too and it came down again, ridicules but true.

Daughters just changed from an 05 Ford KA to a 13 plate Corsa eco flex and the insurance dropped by about £350

Don't just rely on one of the comparison sites. There can be wide variations between them all. However there is another alternative. If I were young again I'd buy a very cheap car say £100 then I'd drive with no insurance. Worst case I'd get my car confiscated and get a £200 fine and 3 points. With the average cost of insurance £1200 I'd be quids in. I'd be even more quids in if I didn't get caught.

Now I know there will be those amongst you that think what I have said is disgraceful. However I beg to differ. What is disgraceful is the amount insurers want to charge young people. I think their premiums are way too high, so my actions would be justified. If you disagree with me then just stop and think whether you would change your mind if the cheapest quote for a young driver was £10,000. I'll bet most of you would. It's just a matter of at what level of premium would you break the law. For me that cut off is when the punishment is less than the cost of the premium.

Premiums are high for young people for a reason.

Oh and its £300 and 6 penalty points - 6 penalty points within the first couple of years of driving = disqualification.

No. I'm just being honest. Premiums are high because the insurance companies are greedy. When I was young it was easy to get reasonable insurance. This is not the case now and it is no wonder young people are driving uninsured. The insurance companies have forced them into it. Not sure you're right about your facts Jenny. Anyway whatever the fine £200 or £300 it's still a lot less than the cost of insurance. In fact if you are a serious offender and go to court the average fine is less than the fixed penalty and is based on income so you could just end up paying £1 per week! What a crazy situation. It's easy to blame the youngsters instead of the system.

And i'm sorry, no one FORCES people to drive uninsured, it is a choice that drivers and drivers alone make. If they can't afford the premiums then they shouldn't be driving. Driving isn't a necessity.

I think you're making that up. You sound like you are no longer a spring chicken but you have to remember you were once young. Life is much much harder for youngsters today. Car insurance is only one area where my generation on the whole couldn't care less.

Whatever happened to collective responsibility? I'd be quite happy for the insurance companies to spread the risk amongst all drivers so we all pay the same regardless of age. It's no good companies just cherry picking the lowest risk drivers just to increase their profits.
