A tell tale sign was their fans. I'm sure they thought they were going to own the ground today. They got off to a decent start and I thought they were going to dominate the vocals. However we were playing well right from the off and we managed to hang on to some noise, matching the players efforts. We got stronger and noisier and they soon retired their vocal chords from about 16minutes.

I'm declaring today a cracking day as I sup my Stella.

Not wishing to put a downer on today's events,  but I couldn't believe the number of people leaving with 5 mins still to play.  The game was on a knife's edge and people were off to get a drop on the traffic presumably. Do these people leave the cinema 5 minutes from the end so they can get home,  too?

Today's win was all about spirit and grit. The players deserved the standing ovation they got at the end (minus the traffic dodgers)

To be fair Rob, that couple of minutes means I avoid the madness after the game and makes a huge difference getting back to Newcastle

Rob. There's no accounting for some folks' bell-endedness.

Two blokes behind me spent the first half moaning that we had no pace. No pace at all ah tell thi.

And the second half, continually (to the point of it being like a f**king aural strobe) saying, "this performance is criminal. Criminal, ah tell thi."

Funny old game football, int it? What other field of human endeavour would induce people to part with twenty odd quid for the right to be an irrational, cantankerous, miserable f**ker for a couple of hours?

I thought the crowd were outstanding as well today. It was a great atmosphere towards the end. It felt like the crowd were making every tackle / pass. Everyone was on the edge of their seats til the end.

At away games I stay and applaud the team.
At home games I leave at the final whistle.
I have a five minute fast limp to the car and then an hours drive home.
I would like to stay longer but as the traffic builds so does my journey time, leaving when I do works for me.

For a hash tag?

Harsh,  Billy. Harsh.

And I understand people going early to avoid traffic,  but just not today. That game had the pulse racing in the last 15 minutes. When the 4th official held his board up for 4 more minutes the tension went up tenfold. It's a shame so many missed it.

I would sooner stick around for half hour and have a clear drive home than sit in the traffic. I just cannot understand anyone who wants to leave a game that is finely balanced before the end of a game.

I start work at 5.45, so a quick get away is essential for me, about halfway through added time I leave my seat and stand at the central tunnel in the West Stand, as soon as the whistle goes I'm out and in my car in Car Park 2 and at the Motorway before the traffic builds up. I'm usually back home in Stainforth for between 5.15 and 5.20, a quick sandwich and then I'm out to work. Some of us are not that fortunate to have a Job 9-5 Monday to Friday!

I have a similar routine to you, Filo, though not due to work but because I have a 100-mile trip ahead of me. Having said that, yesterday the tension was so great that I couldn't move from my seat until the final whistle.

Mine is 160 miles but I would sooner arrive home about 8.30pm and watch the whole game than 8.00pm and miss something. I couldn't justify a three hour drive to not watch the whole game.

Can't blame you for that Filo, at least you watch until the whistle goes.  I often see folks leaving 10 mins before the end, even vs Burnley when  it was still only 0-1 and we were getting back into the game with Duffy etc.

Remember the hysteria at Stevenage away last season, and other last minute winners?   Cotterill vs Colchester at home etc... Did anyone dare leave early at Brentford just to beat the rush to the trains?

IMHO unless you manage it like Filo does, if you can't stay for the whole game, why bother?

There I was sat in my little caravan on the campsite in France, BBC on one page VSC on another and everything stopped at 87 minutes!!!! Kept refreshing and all the other games in the Division were updating, final scores coming through and there we were still at 87 mins! WTF was happening. I then get a text from my B-i-L to say we'd won but still no news on the laptop. Eventually a YESSSS appeared on VSC and then the BBC updates showing we had played 4 mins added time but according to the BBC/VSC absolutely nothing worth reporting on happened in the last 7 mins! JEEZ talk about a heart stopping last 7 mins and I wasn't even at the ground.

I left chesterfield v huddersfield after 2 mins (out of 3) of stoppage time. It was 3-1. In the 100m it took to walk to the car, hudders scored twice. Absolutely livid I was. After that I pledged to never leave a game early again.
