Its a little town in the middle east?!? We gave it to the Jews to create Israel. Why would you want that as our national Anthem?Strictly speaking "we" (as in the UN) agreed in 1947 that in establishing a Jewish homeland, Jerusalem would remain under the control of an international mandate and not by what would become the state of Israel. It was actually under the control of the Arab community (specifically Jordan) until 1967.Strictly speaking? Why is Israel now considered a european country as its in the middle of Arab lands? The poor Jews refinanced us after the 2nd world war and chose their new homeland, Palestine, as its new homeland. It is not the promised land as described in the Torah, it has no mountains and fresh water and is nothing like the compared promised land of the Torah.Still why would we use Jerusalem as our National Anthem?

"And did those Feet" is actually a short poem by William Blake wrote in 1804-1808 The music to this was composed by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916.The poem is based on the unknown years of Jesus referred to in the book of Revelations when Jesus is thought to have visited EnglandIts jack all to do with modern day Jerusalem and Jerusalem in this context is basically an anthem title
and throwing flares on the pitch to boot
Our anthem should be 'Land of hope and glory'.
So long as there's popadums and mango chutney I'm in!
I think Jerusalem is a very apt anthem for the England football team. It is written by a dreamer about things which didn't happen - and are not going to happen - and that is a perfect summary of our chances at any major tournament.Blake, who from his writings appears to have known where the best crops of magic mushrooms were located (and thus would have had a fun time in the inflatable church at Glastonbury) thought England was so great Jesus must have visited. If only managers in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's had been brave enough to pick him in central midfield we might have done better, unfortunately the closest we got was Hoddle - oh and quite a few more players who were crucified by fans and press at the time.Blake then goes on to say that this horrible, unhygienic, stinking and disease ridden source of all the wealth that is making this the great country it is (for that read - north of England) will obviously one day be swept away and replaced with a mystical land of sun, milk and honey, etc - something which is clearly not going to happen but doesn't stop him believing it if he wants to. Which will be the sum of all newspaper reports of England's Brazil campaign from now until we get knocked out next June.Perfect anthem - for the England football team and the Tory party.
