He was pissed off he missed an absolute sitter, it's as simple as that. Sometimes when you are in the heat of battle you make mistakes and do things you regret. Emotions run high when winning means a lot.

Hate to think just how much we are paying him in wages. perhaps a move for ishmail miller would have been a lot better?

There will be no body more pissed off atm than Billy. He will know who he's let down. Billy isn't a nasty player, today his frustration got the better of him. As for saying Ishmail Miller over Billy jsut because he's had a red card is just silly.

Got to bring someone in on loan for a month Matt derbyshire was linked before we got sharp and he hasn't gone anywhere yet so maybe get him. The people saying about piterson getting his chance I am sorry but this lad is not a league 2 player never mind a championship footballer he just looks totally lost every time he plays I am all for giving youth a chance but not this lad.
How many times have you seen Peterson play?

I've seen him play 5-6 times for either first team or development and in my opinion he's no where near good enough he's too lightweight got a poor touch and has no pace I hope in time he proves me wrong but at the minute no chance

We will play Duffy or Copps at 10 which will be a better option anyway with Keegan and Furman in the middle. I wouldn't play Furman mind you.

I partially agree with what your trying to say Gaz. I've played footy twice a week now for the past 8 years and been sent off once, and it was through frustration. That was when I was 21, six years ago. I learned from that and have never been sent off again. I'm pretty sure looking at Billy's previous track record for good discipline he won't let it happen again.

The idiot above saying we should have got Miller instead. Well I think it's safe to say 99% of the forums opinion of him is he is a clueless so and so anyway.

Billy has cost himself the oppertunity to bag a few goals against Yeovil and Barnsley, so he will be kicking himself. It's a big loss to us, but bear in mind he has only scored one of our last 7 goals.

I don't think a 1-0 defeat to Brighton is such a bad result. We have the chance to put it right and get back on the wagon next week.

Billy had a poor game - a part from the free header he missed in the second half - he was pretty much nullified by the Brighton defence.  His reaction was purely one of frustration and it can not be excused.

f**king hell imagine the reaction on here towards the board if they'd gone for Miller over Sharp.

No doubt Boomstick would've been one of the first to jump on it too.

That has annoyed me more than anything, he should be apologising first not looking to blame someone else.

I've not seen the incident, but as always, as soon as you give the ref a decision to make you deserve to get sent off.

I've not seen it again but have a feeling it will be one of those that you think is very soft but won't be overturned.

Why does everyone lose all perspective after a loss?

Never expected to get a result today but luckily results around us went our way. The defense has vastly improved over the last 5 games and it sounded like we limited Brighton to few chances. With Sharp out I imagine we'll revert back to a 5 man midfield which might be a good thing in any case because Browny can hold the ball up and score in that role.

I'm confident about Barnsley and Yeovil and because we're in a better position - we have the advantage of draws being good results.

You have completely missed the point of this thread.

And to imply that it's all Hunky Dory without Sharp for the next 3 games is ridiculous. We signed him because we were nothing less than bereft in the striker department. So his unavailability puts us back where we were.

A bad day to say the least.

Give the fella a chance
He's obviously not match fit and very frustrated with himself
Last time at Brighton we lost him for a season
He's got three games to get his head down and come back to prove himself
I'm with billy the kid all the way

Sharp has scored one goal which was going in anyway. Brown has scored more goals in the games Sharp has been back.

Our biggest problem was the defense. Meite and Tamas and the return of Husband has seen an improvement in that area. We've only conceded 2 goals in 5 games.

ON the contrary, the point still stands and it is you who has ignored the facts and overreacted. Do you honestly think calling Sharp a prick is defensible and not an overreaction?

Folk forget. Sharp has usually been a slow starter. We expect him to come in like the Angel of The Lord, slaying our foes left, right and centre. But he's never been like that for us.

He scored one in his first 6 games when he first started for us. He scored two in the first 8 the year after. When he came back from Dunk's attempted tendonectomy, he scored 1 in his first 7 back. He'll score when he's ready.

It sounded like he was acting like a petulant cock in getting sent off though. Stupid and self-indulgent. It might be his first red card, but he certainly should have had one 3 years back when he took out Jason Shackell in a Hong Kong Phooey knee-high challenge against Barnsley. That was another frustration challenge because Shackell had not given him a sniff all night. It might be a reason but it's no excuse.

What are you going on about?
Who called Sharp a prick? How did I defend that?
How have I over-reacted?

Take a breath and put your brain in gear before you post next time sunshine.

I would have thought you'd know the difference between a prick and an idiot....

I don't necessarily agree with the OP's description of Billy's red card because I haven't seen the incident.
But from the accounts I've read, he was at the least irresponsible and his suspension will hurt us.

My comment about you missing the point of this thread is that it's about Billy's red card, whereas your contribution was to say that everyone had lost perspective after one loss, which is a completely different issue.

it was a shameful miss of an open goal, and a shameful sending off

i like to think that Billy is professional enough to know and accept what folk are going to think of him

pick yourself up, take a deep breath, set the record straight, move on

Not that I took pleasure in hearing Billy's sending off, but you couldn't make it up could you?

Billy Sharp was the first player to score a league goal at the AMEX.
The AMEX is the first ground where Sharp saw red for the first time in his career.

I've just seen the Billy sending off incident, for me it's a man's game and it should have been treated like that,it's a yellow card for me,i know he lashed out,but he didn't do any damage, but totally unprofessional giving ''The Ref straight out of nursery'' a chance to send him off, everybody makes mistakes and hopefully he learns from it,now it's up to the lads who are eligible for the Barnsley and Yeovil games to get us the results, which they are more than capable of,even with Billy fit,we are short of goalscoring options though,we could do with an addition in that department.

When clubs appeal against red cards aren't suspensions put on hold until the appeal has been looked into?

May be worth appealing, even if it just means we have him for the huge game next week?

Just a thought!

I agree, having seen it on the FL show, thats not a red for me, both players should have got a yellow

It was just a bit of petulance for me Filo, and it's not just because it's our player, just really silly away from home to give the ref a chance to send him off,for me if that's a sending off,the games pathetic, watch a local league game in the Donny league, the ref's show more common sense than the professional ref's

If we appeal then the hearing will be next week. My worry is that we might get the ban increased. We could try to argue that the 3-match ban is disproportionate to the offence, and try to get it reduced to one game. I don't think we'll have much of a chance though.

Billy didn't actually touch him though did he? I know the intent was there and he had a swing, but he didn't actually make a connection. Surely that should count towards a reduction towards a one match ban?

It's the second kick out that gets him sent off because the ball has already gone. If he just shoulder barges an pushes him he doesn't get sent off. I'd probably risk the appeal because we could do with him these next two games
