I see the ref was one Jamie Bloem. Isn't he the former Dons player?

Don't know if the Ref is the same person, but I seem to remember a player called Bloem who was a hot prospect when with the Dons when they got promoted to the top division, there was talk of clubs thinking of making a bid to sign him from the Dons with rumours of  £200,000 being spread, then he got done for something to do with Banned drugs or something, don't remember the details and not sure if it was performance inhancing or what.He got banned I think it might have been for 2 yrs not sure. His ban conincided with the dons drop down the top division and eventual relegation.

Edit,Well done Dons.hope you keep it up. :clapping:

Promotion is reinstated in 2015-2016 season next year the top 9 sides in the championship are joined by 1 team been promoted and 2 super league sides being relegated making it 12 teams but I'm not sure how many sides are promoted at the end of 2016

Jamie is a South African ex international RL player. I think he came over to play for Castleford and has also played for Sheffield, Halifax and Keighley amongst others. It was while he was banned that he took the referees course and has worked his way up to the pro leagues.

It is something more former players in RL, RU and football should do, maybe we would get better refs in the future if they did so.

He was a bloody good player too. He did come back after his ban. Forget now who he signed for though.

I remember seeing Jamie drag 3 defenders over the line for a try at Tattersfield. I thought there was something superhuman about him then. What a player he was though.

I thought occurred to me the other day as I was passing Tattersfield, the Dons still have a board on that site advertising their next home game. Now the Dons are owned by Rovers I wonder if any one at the club has thought about utilising that board to also advertise Rovers next home games?

We beat Batley in April to achieve promotion and by the time we opened the Super League season in August, he had bulked about two stones on of sheer muscle. We thought we had signed a new player. We though something was amiss then.
I remember in one of the first games of the season against Leeds he was defending a break from then GB captain Ellery Hanley. He picked Hanley up like a rag doll, carried him five yards sideways and threw him out into touch into a hoarding. The look on Hanleys face was a picture.
I believe he was dope tested positively after giving a sample after the St Helens home game despite being pre-warned about it. He was subsequently given a three year ban.
Good to see him back in the game though, I think he learnt his lesson.

I thought it was Alan Tait that he did that to.

Yes, I remember him doing it to Tait as well near the changing rooms corner. He did Hanley at the opposite corner of the field. Got the match on video somewhere, Leeds won 16-6.

No worries. If you or anyone else reading is interested, I have virtually the whole seasons programmes from 94-95, our one season in Super League. Any reasonable offer considered.

Jamie played footbal in Sunday league while he was banned. He was a v good keeper and when he came off his line there was only one winner. He was a down to earth sociable lad and carried on making the odd guest appearance when he resumed his rugby career.

I played in the same side. It was the old Barker and Wigfalls team. I think it had changed to the Castle at that point but could be wrong. I remember playing out at South Elmsall against a team called Tank FC in the Sheffield cup. They took a dislike to Jamie. Interesting game that. Not much ball kicking went on!
Like you said, nice guy and he also went out with my mates sister.

Jamie had a season playing Football for me. He was quite the force and led the League in yards rushing with close to 2000 and something like 30TD's. Nice guy...and his Missus, Louise, was a right stunner too !

Filo don't often go through Bentley but had to last week and thought exactly the same
Maybe worth a bit of advertising at each junction to Doncaster from A1 M18 etc
