Amsterdam

Ive just been to Amsterdam this weekend and i absolutely love the place. I couldnt believe that there were more bycicles on the roads than cars. The people are cool as f**k and not a chav or fat get in sight. Beautiful city, especially walking along the canals, the red light district was a laugh but the gange cakes were shit. Love the place and can't wait to go back, who's been and what do you think?

We went and ended up staying out of town a bit. The local bar pointed us towards the "cafe". It was next to the police station. That's why Amsterdam is cool as f**k.

We went a few years ago and enjoyed it. The Ice Bar was good but expensive.
We went in a cafe for a drink to say we'd been. Me and the two women had coffee, the mate tried a space tea that had no affect on him.
His wife Ann said you can't come here and not have some cake so bought a piece. We all had a Small bit and she polished it off.
We wandered off to find somewhere to eat and 45 minutes later in this steak house Ann started shivering and shaking and went drip white.
Our lass is a nurse so didn't panic but in the end had to call an ambulance. Ann ended up in hospital for a few hours, I think all the gear must have been in the corner that she ate. The medics said that it is happening all the time there and they usually carry pills that stabilise you. The moral is be careful what you eat or drink.
Apart from that we had a great time.

We paid £240 for the pair of us which included ferry crossing, coach pick up and drop off and hotel.

I went a few years back and didn't really enjoy it. I was with a big group of mates and as the only non-smoker there was always going to be interesting. I just stuck to the beer, had a bit of space cake but didn't affect me at all. Like you say it's pretty cool how there are just bikes everywhere and there are some good things to see, just wasn't really for me.

I've been a few times. If you like weed, brass, canals or all three it's the place to go. I love canals.

I went last year with 7 mates and found the locals to be cold towards us. Really felt like we didn't belong but apart from that really enjoyed it. Interesting place.

That's probably more to do with d**khead Brit lads reputation preceding them. We found them to be really friendly and laid back.

Ha, been about ten times when in the Navy, in the 90's. Top place then but not been since 96 (was there for euro tie with Holland :)
we used to walk for at least an hr to get away from the crowds (and reggies so we could smoke!)
Nice place nice people, although many stragglers got jumped on way back to dockyard by local naughty boys! Always had a hell of an overdraft to clear after each visit :);) happy days.

Been a few times both by myself for football trips, with mates, or with a friend. Seriously love the place. Laid back, chilled, anything goes. Highly recommended.

Done several tours and got seriously Amsterdamaged! Safe to say don't do longer than a weekend if you're doing bun-age or other things plus the famed Oranjeboom. As one local told me: "You English are crazy! Drink only or smoke. Not both!" I've never done the cultural stuff, Ann Frank, tulip stuff, windmills. Spent most of my time in bars, even the Bulldogs!!! It's just the lifestyle, if you can call it that. The windows, the shops selling all manner of stuff. Where else can you get pre-packed mushrooms like you can in Tescos!!!! Never been fussed about the Grasshopper but I guess you have to try it. Full of bizarre stuff like the indoor sex market with birds just stood outside trying to get you in.

I actually remember being in the Bulldog one time and a bloke tapped me on the shoulder. He was dressed as a baby. Nappy on, the baby head gear. It was weird. To top it all he was from Donny and on his stag do. We were both shit faced stood in this bar talking Rovers. Recognised me from the Donny games. Only in Amsterdam.

Getting there I'd fly. Less than an hour to Schipol. Train straight to Amsterdam Centraal. John Lennon airport used to be the cheapest flights. I'd recommend the Terminus if you're gonna bez round the filth or the Torenzight. Basic but good on a budget. Only place I've ever seen a drive by w**king!!!!
