Blackpool are in genuine turmoil. They have been for about 8 months. We've got to asses our situation in a few weeks.

A mess but they still have money from that family available. I'm also sure they would attract players when and if needed.

They are also in a division higher than us, which always helps.

Miracle they stayed up really. Looking at their squad last season they can't have much money available.

They've had to cancel their tour in Spain apparently, due to lack of players.

Sometimes there's a high price to pay after a tilt at the big time. Depends where you stand on whether it's a price worth paying.

Bolton fans have had it relatively good until relegation and they have now discovered their parachute payments are going straight back to the bank towards the debts they've accrued. They have definitely come back to the real world with a bump. They could also be a candidate for a further drop in division.

We have seen some incredible numbers in terms of debts in recent times and all debts have to be serviced one way or another.

Are we in a mess??

Well, I think we have two more contracted players than Blackpool, so yes, I'd say we're in a mess.

Even if Dickov gets the green light to sign players on Friday, deals still have to be done. Effectively we've given our rivals two to three weeks head start on us when it comes to preparation for the season.

I'd argue that Blackpool are in a bigger mess because the Championship is even more competitive than League One. Only a good start to the season saved them last time and I can't see them getting that this time around.

I would say some deals have already been done, albeit on an agreement basis.

Contracted-

Jones
McCombe
Husband
McCullough
Furman
Bennett
De Val
Wellens
Forrester
Robinson

Coppinger and Keegan will sign contracts on 18th.

Wakefield, Peterson and Middleton all are wanted and want to stay.

Bailey, Clarke and Evina all been offered contracts from the 18th.

It's not that bad at all. There are 18 players there if which 15 you would class as first teamers. We're not a million miles away.

Yep, Hull City are saying all the righ things at the moment about concentrating on Premier League survival over their games in Europe.

I think Blackpool have done the right thing in truth...I have to question the benefit against the cost of us going to Portugal when in all likely hood only 3 or 4 of the team will be first teamers....

3 or 4?? I've just named you 18 players that all need a proper pre season. 15 of them are first teamers. Admittedly we will probably bring another 5 or so in but we have to get good preparation into to ones we have.

You clearly know more than me, Gaz. Though Dickov did talk about Clarke yesterday as though he was a squad member rather than a trialist.

Have you heard owt about Turnbull? Can we assume that he won't be returning?

I don't know. It's likely he doesn't want to play when not contracted and risk injury. I think there's every chance he will sign, and what a great signing it would be.

That's just a play on words though isn't it Of the contracted players (as of now) only 5 or 6 will probably be first choice and some of those haven't kicked a ball in nearly a year or may move on still...I just don't know what the benefit of sending 30 odd people to Portugal gives you?? against the cost of flights and hotels...to play Huddersfield??

One more year of Premier League parachute payments though, Gaz.  You cant say they have got no money.  That's probably 4 or 5 times what we spent on our player budget last season.  Of course, thats assuming Karl Oyston is prepared to spend some of it on the club.

Could be wrong but I think this season just gone was the last one they got them for.

Might be this, if not.
