Taking the biscuit now.
Hello, option to extend.....
He should be the type of player we are giving 3 year deals to. Has played plenty of games, is young. Now if he does well he's gone for free next summer.
We simply can't afford to get stuck with substandard/injury prone players on long term contracts, even if it means losing out on a big payday every now and then. The risks outweigh the rewards in most cases. With restricted finances and (more importantly) increased player/agent power, free transfers, one year contracts and the extensive use of loans are the norm in lower league football. For clubs at this level, 2+ year contracts seem to be reserved for players costing a transfer fee, or for promising future prospects. Of course there will also be players who will demand the extra security a longer contract provides, just as there will always be those unwilling to commit beyond a season.I think we need to get used to seeing the vast majority of the squad changing every season for the foreseeable future.
