A settled team
« on September 28, 2014, 12:42:34 pm by mrfrostsdad »
Is something most managers crave for. A team that plays together gets to know each other, plays for each other and it engenders team spirit and a will to do anything for each other. Having just watched the Football League Show, it was a continuing thread in the programme.

So, after our best performance of the season against Chesterfield, when I and plenty of others had been screaming for our manager to play one up front, with Furman in behind, get rid of Keegan and bring in De Val, he did just that and the results when compared to the dross we had been served up at home for ages, were almost unbelievable.

So, for our next league game what does our manager do? (Ok we have to make one change as Tyson is injured) he brings back Keegan for De Val and drops Wellens. This is Keegan, who's job is not to do this, or that, or something else. Quite what his job is is totally beyond me, he is not a footballer, full stop. And Wellens, who I thought was excellent against Chesterfield. Result? We got battered.

So, why do it? Why change a winning team that had played so well the week before? Answers on a postcard. I know what my answer is. What does that do to the confidence of De Val? (If he has any left) and what does it do to Wellens, who we know probably doesn't want to be here but put in an excellent performance last week? I'd be knocking on the managers door asking him what the hell he's playing at. Wellens is not stupid, he's a very experienced pro. He must wonder what is going on. No wonder he wanted away.

Dickov now says 'there will be changes next week if I can do it' Well, you did it this week and you didn't need to. There would be one change this week if it were up to me, and plenty of others, and it wouldn't be to the team!

How do you know wellens wasn't carrying an injury? He came off at half time on Tuesday.
Plus the 2nd half display in Tuesday was as good as we've had in a long time, so maybe that's why he kept keegan and furman.

45minutes playing well together for Keegan and Furman doesn't make up for every other time they have played together its been pure shite. It's bad management picking them two together when everyone knows they don't work.

I don't care if no-one reacts Eastender. That is my opinion. Yes,,same old, same old. Same old shite from a manager who is totally clueless.
And I'm not on my own with that particular opinion if you've read the forum this week. Or don't you bother? Yes, Wellens may have been carrying an injury, but if he was injured why was he on the bench and why was he brought on?

And at lease I'm consistent. I've consistently said Dickov should not have got the job in the first place and should have been sacked after Stevenage beat us in the cup in January.

Is it a wake up call?

It seems about time we had a wake up call.

He hasn't given that to the players for at least 72 hours.

If you read my post again , I am agreeing with you ... he comes out with the same excuses when we get beat . I'm expecting the usual " i'll  be wanting a reaction " sound bite  to be rolled out in the next few day's.

We have hung onto a fair few players, who unfortunately have gone past their best,Wellens,Keegan,Jones,McCombe should have been released, except Jones for me deserves a coaching role, his playing days i'm sorry to say seem over.
Wellens was a very good player, but us and Leicester got his best, that's now gone,Keegan surprised a lot of fans last season with some very steady performances, this season he isn't even as good as last season and he's dropped a league.
McCombe was gone when Saunders signed him,but he managed to squeeze another season out of him along with Brian Flynn.

Our team is unbalanced,we have three wingers who we are trying to fit in to the side, wingers are the most inconsistent players on a pitch, look at Coppinger,he doesn't play well week after week,he has always had a run of ordinary games, then produced one fantastic game that leaves you waiting for the next.
Forrester potentially a fine player but seems to have an attitude problem,Bennett this has been his best year for us,will he relax back when he get's another contract?

The team we have Wabara is okay,McCullough needs somebody new at the side of him,the goalkeeper is showing shoots of improvement, but i think we could get better.
Left back Evina is okay,i would get Enda Stevens or Danny Andrew in as cover,De Val needs to start with a new signing at the side of him.
The wingers are our strongest players, that's why our performances are in and out,i'd like a specialised attacking central midfielder.
Strikers for me if they are all fit we still need another one.

So for me we need
Goalkeeper-1
Left back-1
Centre half-1
Central midfield-1
Attacking Midfield-1
Striker-1
We need six players to give whoever the manager is a chance to be successful, whether it be free transfers, loans or fee transfers.

If you are right Sammy and you was an owner would you trust PD enough to give him the funds to bring those players in.

I wouldn't disagree with you too much  Sammy. Wellens was excellent last week against Chesterfield.,well, I thought so anyway. He looked like he was coming back to full fitness. He's never been quick, but doesn't need to be the way he plays.
Keegan? Don't need to keep repeating my opinion of him. I'm totally baffled why De Val was dropped for him. Maybe Dickov would have been happy with a draw?

For me we need.
A goalkeeper
2x full backs (don't rate either of the ones we have
A centre half
A striker

I personally think we're ok in midfield. Wellens, De Val, Furman, Coppinger, Forrester, Bennett. Ok, Copps and Bennett are wingers, but still midfielders in the bigger scheme of things. Would I give the money to Dickov to spend or bring in loans? You don't need to ask me that!!

You conveniently forgot to mention that we had a game in between where the changed team played probably some of the best football we have seen for a long time in the last 45 minutes. By your theory you wouldn't have changed that team then?

No i wouldn't trust him with the money Steve, but i would get somebody in early enough to give us a chance of doing something this season
