For the record, I've never actually watched Game of Thrones. TV (apart from news) is for idlers and losers. What I actually meant was that I'd go round to his hotel room and hector him about the moral obscenity of Germany's economic policy towards Greece. And if he doesn't f***ing well score two next week, I'll go round again and scream at him all night about the Argentinian Default in 2002.
Don't bring me into it BST.

Love this quotation from Crewe manager Steve Davis: "We’d just got him sorted with a flat, he’d just bought a TV and he was ready to settle."

You ever been to Crewe?

Aye, that I have. Seem to recall that it was about 63/64. A bloody, wet miserable Tuesday night. I think Rovers got a point. Is the town still that bad?

Is that the game we came back from 0-4 to 4-4 Wilts?

Actually it is a bit of a favourite away trip of mine. Even though my first visit, in 1978, was unpromising to say the least. We got stuff thrown at us by the local urchins and we lost 2-0.

Rovers also wore a strange away kit - bright yellow shirts and brown shorts. I think it was called banana and chocolate. I hope I haven't given Avec's design department and ideas!

I never got to see us in that kit, never seen a photo of it either.  You would expect the club to have retained a set of each kit for posterity?

They would have done as Scunny played in red in those days. I missed that game (I think it ended goalless) as I went to watch the Dons beat Blackpool instead.

I'd like to think they do that now, but I'm not sure they do. Over the years the people running the club have had very little interest in its heritage, although that has begun to change recently.

Don't think so, Dutch.  The game was pretty crap and I think we ground out a 1-1 draw. Certainly a 4-4 score would have been a tad more memorable!
Is there a decent stats website where we could confirm the result?

Wilts: Rovers games at Crewe 1960-1972:

1960-1 Draw 1-1
1961-2 Lost 0-2
1962-3 Lost 0-3
1964-5 Drew 4-4
1965-6 Won 1-0
1967-8 Drew 2-2
1969-70 (FACup) Won 1-0
1971-2 Won 1-0

Going by those maybe it was 1960-1 or 1967-8?

Cheers

Brian

Wilts: I used a good site for my potted history and head to head bit on the mic last season - I can't remember what it was called but will find it when I get home for you!

Must have been 60/61, Brian. I'd emigrated to Guildford in 1967!

Many thanks A1. Looks as though the site is 11v11 as Dutch has suggested. Must bookmark it before I forget!
Thanks, guys!

Baby Ford
"Oochy Coochy"

Tune!

I've got that on 12" complete with the warning that it will damage your speakers.  The vinyl is about half an inch thick.

First thing you notice about this guy is his size. His legs are more than twice as thick as any other player in the team - or at least as far as I could tell from the warm up.

At times I thought he looked slightly clumsy but he still managed to hold the ball up. He does this partly because of his physicality, it's just very hard for defenders to go round him when he's got the ball, they end up having to go through him like yesterday.

People said he doesn't got pace but he's certainly no slouch. He made some lovely diagonal runs (Theo please take note). His finishing didn't look too shabby just unlucky yesterday.

I would say we would get most out of the lad played alongside a natural goal poacher. Uche would draw defenders away, create space, and play the ball in. Whether we've got that at the moment I'm uncertain. He did it for Main yesterday but Main's finishing was slightly off. I think when it all clicks an opposition team is in trouble.

Great start, very promising.

He has got pace just not good acceleration. A few times yesterday he knocked the ball past the defender and powered past them
