Who would you invite?
« on March 02, 2015, 10:52:15 am by Lincoln Rover »
Probably been done before but times change.
You get the chance to host a meal for five/six football managers who are still with us.Not for the cameras etc.
Who would you have round?
Here's my starter.
Jose
Mr Wenger
Sir Sean
Alex Ferguson
Neil Warnock.
The different approaches and attitudes would be fascinating.

I think three of the first four would appear on any UK fan's list. I'd add SO'D, Allardyce and Walter Smith.

Of course it would be good to get some of those no longer with us. How about:

Bill Shankly
Jock Stein
Brian Clough
Alf Ramsey
Don Revie

Not sure we could cope with Clough and Revie in the same room, though.

Maybe John - but do you think Shanks would let either of 'em get one word in?!

Probably not, Bob. If I had to choose just one to talk to out of all that lot, living and dead, I think Shankly would be the one. A fascinating, enigmatic man who not only achieved success but laid the foundations for a lot more.

I did say I wondered if you could have both in the same room.

Steve Cotterill, Steve Evans, Shaun Derry, Graham Westley.

Then I'd go down the pub and leave them to knock seven bells of shite out of each other.

I doubt they would, all are gobshites that just puff their chests out with no action, it'll just be a posturing session

Cloughie on form with Shankly as wingman would rip the managers of today to bits. Can just imagine him with a patronising "listen here young man" as an opening line to Mourinho.

It'd be fascinating listening to Clough having a go at Arsene "I did not zee zat" Wenger or Jose "It was not a dive" Mourinho.

He hated cheats and divers. The classic line was reported by Brian Glanville, the Italian-speaking journalist after Juventus had cheated their way to the European Cup Final against Derby in 1973.

A host of Italian journalists were outside the dressing room door. Clough popped his head out and said "I do not speak to cheating bas**rds. No cheating bas**rds will I speak to." Then he went back in the dressing room. Seconds later, he popped his head back round the door, looked at Glanville and said, "You speak Italian Brian. f**king translate it," then slammed the door shut.

I wonder how Brian Clough would react to son Nigel's adopted methods of cheating and diving at Sheffield united?

I was lucky enough about 4 years ago to have Peter Shilton round at our house after winning a carlsberg competition

He sat with us and watched England v Wales. The majority of stories he told involved Brian clough, although he was before my time it was brilliant stuff
