Pope at Bury - sounds like it's their funeral not ours.

OK I'll bite.

Why, if a player we have been interested in then signs for another club, does that mean we are "shit"?

Perhaps the other club is offering a better package - maybe they are breaking their budget for him?  Should we?  Or should we stick to certain limits?  Does that mean we lack ambition - does it b*llocks!

Perhaps the player wants to stay closer to home?

Perhaps he likes the management team at Bury more?

All kinds of reasons we could argue, but NONE of them make us "shit"

We cannot sign EVERY player we are potentially linked with.

Not too fussed if we miss out on him to be honest, he's spent all his career in the bottom two leagues, scored most of his goals in league 2, we need to be aiming for players of Champioship standard

When it comes to strikers, expecting Championship standard is unrealistic. At the level we are at, not the level we wish we were at, what we really need is to have someone of experience, Tyson is a good example, and then hungry developing strikers. Youth programme and scouting networks is where it's at. We have the set up to bring the right people in.

Maybe he wasn't our main target and we used him as a smoke screen. Shit happens.

Whether he signs for Bury is irrelevant. We need a striker so it's down to the CEO and PD to get one at least. The talk was he was on 4K a week. For a good exciting striker who as a good goal scoring striker I would hope we could compete with that or even a bit more.

Let's see what we can get then decide if we can compete or not.

Personally I wouldn't want us to be paying him £4k a week.

As he says in his précis of events " I went to Doncaster to discuss a move there and all I was offered was a handshake" make of that what you will.

I agree at the age of 29 and looking for a three year contract. Yet we need to spending at least that amount if we want a striker I have said above.

I find it worrying for Bury FC that they are giving players high wages on a 3 year contract.

I don't worry about us in the slightest at this point. It was clear our interest in Pope had moved on when Dickov publicly declared his interest a few weeks ago.

How do you know we didn't?  And what if we offered what we thought Pope was worth and then Bury offered more?

If you have a direct insight into the transfer dealings of our club, then please explain.  Then again, you think the club is "shit" so why would anyone associated with it give you the time of day?

Was gonna say something similar copps, offering a 29 yo a 3yr deal would probably be not what we intended - especially as has already been mentioned most of his goalscoring exploits have not been at a higher standard than we (hopefully) aspire to be at! If he was 22 and had had a couple of good seasons at lg1 or above I'd be more bothered - if he goes to bury and they pay £4k a week in wages for 3 years good luck to him and them!

I think that's a key point. It is almost as if Dickov threw out that name because he was a player he'd looked at and decided not to go further.

I'd have been happy with Pope as a signing because I've rated him for a while. That said, I'm not going to praise or criticise the club until I've seen who we do sign.

Good luck to him.  By your argument, all the other teams interested in signing him are therefore "shit".

I make of it that we weren't as interested as the OP thinks we were. Which makes him a shit critic.

Any team in the top six this season will have better strikers than Tom Pope. Nothing to worry about here.

Not heard anything on a takeover at all so the pattern isn't there at all
