A Good young player needs faith shown in him to shine, but to be fair Paul sees him in training, most of us just see matches, it's disappointing because we thought this lad could make it with us.
It's good that he has an opportunity with another professional side, he just can't have impressed the manager enough.
He has to make the big decisions for the good of the squad and player, let's not forget he has a fair few players ahead of him in the pecking order now, it might be better for Liam's career.

For me, I have faith in the coaching team who have worked with the lad for some time now. Enough time to make a balanced assessment of whether he is good enough to have full confidence in him if needed due to injury. Potentially needing to play in key games which could be the difference in promotion or not. I would guess this is how they will have looked at it.

Thats because he is average.  He's a kid only half way down his road of development.

What do they expect?  Japp Stam?

I rated Wabarra average at full back, also MCCullough as yet is only average at RB. If he doesn't get an offer at Walsall what he lost really PD only offered him 6 month.

I don't know for a fact but I would suggest his wages are no where near £40k for 6 months. I would suggest he would be lucky to get that for the year.

For me he's not strong enough to be a centrehalf at this level and not fastest enough to be a rightback, having said that he's only 21 there's still time to get stronger. I personally would like to see as many Donny lads in the first team as possible but PD sees him everyday and only thinks he merits a 6 month deal. I have to say if I saw him lining up against Darius Henderson or Connor Salmon I'd be a tad worried.

The phrase "A bird in the hand..." Comes to mind. I hope he gets fixed up somewhere, but I'm not sure he's been very well advised. Reminds me of Andy Watson and Theo Streete.

Do you think he would come back and take the 6month deal he was offered?

I don't think that'd be a bad thing and ditto it for wabarra and furman (should they not get deals elsewhere!) It would give us familiarity at least and not too much integration!

He probably would now, but as happened with Maxted last season I think it will now be off the table.

He will have been offered easily 2k a week, his first contract was more than 40k a year.

I doubt he'd be offered more than a grand a week.

I would be shocked if he was even close to that.

Its about time lower league footballers got a reality check. £48k for an average footballers is still a lot of money.

If I had been advising Wakefield I would have recommended that he signed the contract on offer. Then that he had a good chat to the manager so that if he wasn't going to be involved in the first team he'd be allowed to go out on loan.

I realise there are no guarantees in such a situation, but I do think Dickov is a fair man and would be willing to go along with this idea.

No way he would have been offered 2k. More likely around the £500 mark.

We offered Bradshaw from Walsall £3k a week, Liams on a lot less than £500 a week.

If you suspect Liam Wakefield to of being offered 2k a week your knowledge is next to none. He will off been offered £300 a week tops.

I think last season he was on around £500 a week with bonuses for any first team appearances made.

It always amuses me these people who alledge to know what players are being paid.
The negotiation room must be fairly sizeable to accomodate all these people in the know  :rtid:

Players talk, whether its exact figures you'll never 100% know. I know a couple of the Walsall players really well, Tom Bradshaw came for talks with us and "donny offered him 3 grand a week". As it happens he's settled down there and didn't to uproot his family, he's re-signed for them on an improved contract but (and believe it or not) on a lot less than we offered. Very rare these days.

Walsall wouldn't have offered Wakefield anymore than £300-£400 basic a week plus appearance +win bonuses.

It just looks to me that Walsall saw the same potential in him that PD did, and for once I have to agree with PD.
