Gift for a 13 YO
« on October 08, 2015, 09:06:52 pm by River Don »
We've been trying to think of something imaginative...

But I can't help thinking at that age I just wanted a wedge of cash to spend as I liked. Is that about right?

She isn't into consoles, she's obsessed with the iPad. Constantly gaming on it and chatting to friends.

A smack in the mouth would be my suggestion RD. Personal experience suggests it would be about the only thing they might take notice of.

My answer every time would be a bike. Failing that, anything that gets 'em OUTSIDE and moving their limbs. One of my kids "most enjoyed" birthday gifts was a go around "Go Ape".

Take her and her mates to Xscape , they've got a massive room full of those trampoline things. I can guarantee you they will love it and remember it. Kids secretly love getting out and doing stuff, they just don't admit it to you.

Depending on budget, at that age kids like to feel grown up so I would consider something along the lines of saying pick a mate to come away for a weekend, we'll book a hotel so you and the mate can have your own room and take you out to a show in the evening. As a 13 year old I would've loved wandering round a new and exciting city, having a pub lunch, getting my glad rags on for a trip to the theatre or similar and getting up in the morning for a nice, big hotel brekkie. The sort of thing that would be remembered for years.

Is she into music? iTunes voucher, maybe.

Time is priceless.  Take her somewhere that is special to her, that you can enjoy as a family? Depends what she is into of course, but there are places like the Harry Potter studios tour - expensive but ideal if she likes that sort of thing.

Thanks for the ideas.

Perhaps the day out is the way to go, she isn't so much of a music fan yet but she loves film and wants to be an actress so maybe the Harry Potter studio tour is worth looking into.

Took my 13yo to Gravity at escape then for a "cheeky Nandos" His words!!??
older bro 15 and younger sister 9 both enjoyed it also. Dad 44 broke two ribs! can recommend it though.
Also took them out the yr before to the hills nr Hathersage spent the day climbing and wading thro rocks and streams down to Grindleford. Train station Café there is best in the world (fact). They loved it.
Or go up Mam Tor? very easy from Edale stn, throw in a pub lunch and 50000000 dad points.

As above tho mainly spend time. Do something daft / different to get them out of their bubble??
