This could really do serious harm to Carlisle. Smaller crowds and the expense of hiring a home ground are going to do noticeable damage to their balance sheet. Hope they're insured for the costs of repair.... Unlikely they'll be insured for loss of revenue though. That's not common and it's damn expensive to buy.

All the players went out into the community to lend a hand. I thought that was a brilliant initiative by the club.

Perhaps we could send our Head Steward up there to help throw furniture around.....just to keep his hand in like.

People in Carlisle are still wearing flares, as its still 1975 up there.
Daughter's at Carlisle University, luckily she'd come home for Christmas the previous weekend so fortunately not affected.
No problems with flooding in Harrogate though, just been bloody windy. Nipped out for a loaf of bread the other night and got blown into the pub, and my wheelie bins received a speeding ticket!

When Wednesday's ground was flooded the pitch never recovered.  Anyone remember what a bog it was last season? They had to spend an absolute fortune this closed season to strip it right back and rebuild it from scratch.

They had to poach the best groundsman in South Yorkshire to get it right too.

There were some cricket pitches under water round here a few years ago. They were all proper ruined - even after they'd dried out. The ECB chucked quite a lot of money at it because the clubs couldn't fix the problems on their own. One club, one I've played at, woke up one morning after the flood to find the entire field absolutely covered in some sort of big worm cast type things. I forget what it was but it was some wee beasstie that had moved in as a result of the flood. They had to dig out the top soil from the whole area. They had to borrow pitches for about 2 seasons.

Yes .... and last time round I remember they found a Goldfish belonging to a young kid from a few doors away

There must be thousands of fish that end up dying I suppose when their pons gets over run and they end up getting swept away to who knows where. Trout from the River Eden are presumably everywhere so the Koi were lucky
