Good news, certainly not going to grumble at the thought of a youngster who has broken into the first team committing to us for a few years!

Agree - great news.

If DF likes tying down the good youngsters, maybe Middleton might be offered something similar?

Edit: is the longest contract ever offered by Rovers to a player?

SOD gave Shelton Martis a 4.5 year contract.

Martis had an absolutely appalling injury record.

He also gave quite a long contract to sick note from Bristol City. Now that was some signing!!

Did Martin Woods originally get 4 years or have I got that wrong?

Was that all in one go CBCB, or did he have say a 2-year contract, and then sign a 3 year extension when he had 6 months left? I don't know - I am just asking.

Also ditto Martin Woods, although I do remember he did seem to have a long contract.

Martis signed a three and a half year contract. I'm not sure if he ever signed an extension. I remember the majority on here, myself included, thought that it was a good deal. How wrong we were.

Some of us seem to be warming to Fergie Jnr despite or maybe because he is in many ways a copy off the old block.

I have read Fergie Sr's books. One point he mentioned is to never have all players contracts expiring around the same time. This can lead to players having more pressure to negotiate as you need to keep the team in place and also if they expire at the same time you risk having to rebuild an entire team.

Contracts don't get handed out like confetti anymore, that's good to see, Mitchell has earned his deal, now he can get on with improving his game, i think there is more to come.
