Defensively...
« on December 19, 2015, 05:42:56 pm by colincramb »
Now I'm not going to start being too critical before anybody gets upset, but we are conversing a lot of goals. Obviously we are much more dangerous going toward but there needs to be a balance.

Sounds like a good, battling point and can't complain with points at both Coventry and burton, but we must tighten up at the back

I don't mind if we win every game 7-6

And therein lies the problem. Too busy taking about letting goals in... Doh.

I do think we need a new centre half that has that bit more quality, we have got plenty of battlers back there but not a great deal of quality. But Fergie can only work with what he's got and I'm sure he will probably realise that's an area to work on.

Nowt wrong with being a work in progress whilst picking up points along the way.

Agree with that, while we looked like we would score every attack so did they, we need a centre half with a bit of pace

As I've said before elsewhere, we are playing by the Kevin Keegan School of football.

We're gonna score one more than you.
Great going forward but suspect defensively.

... perhaps not totally shit (the Goalkeeper IS part of the defence after all) BUT I know what you mean

It is ironic that we have moved on (as Forum posters) from Rovers not being able to attack / take chances / dominate midfield to now not being 100% defensively ... and I agree that is the concerning department of our game now

PS I did not go today and had to suffer via Twitter !

When is McKenzie due back? Could he be the answer to our defensive shortcomings?

Quote from Burton fan today:-

Think in the longer term this could be a point gained rather than 2 dropped.

If Doncaster continue to play under Fergie like that they will wreek plenty of havoc on the top teams by the seasons end.

More to the point they will probably be up there with us.

The way he seems to play if posh were anything to go by is to go for it,you score 3 we will try for 4.

Cracking game and nice to see over 3000 Brewers in the ground despite it being last weekend before Xmas.

Absolutely not. He's worse than Taylor-Sinclair.

 :that: :that: :that:

I agree ... he may as well be where he is. He is slow ponderous dirty and much as I dislike "criticising" Rovers players and always try to see the best I think GM is a liability / would be a liability in our present set up

Who then might be the solution for strengthening our defence? Jones?

We need a couple of good centre backs, the ones we have simply aren't good enough. I'm certain Fergie knows this & will rectify it in January. Watch us climb the league then.

Les earlier is absolutely right. The wins and goals are the trade off against poor defence. He only plays with a single proper centre back folks! Think we have to take this on the chin. His system just doesn't take account of defence. Am happy to swallow this to be honest.

More entertainment , we will try and score one more goal than you , will take this over the dire stuff dickov produced , and if he was still here we would of lost 3 0, long live fergie s stay has manager.
I have more confidence going into games , and he is still building
and I have my buzz back and enjoying games again
no moans from me what so ever .

A Matt Mills type CB would be ideal but they don't grow in trees.

That said, the Duffy equaliser came from 3 of our players following the ball carrier and leaving Duffy alone with enough time to get his shot off. Bad marking, not a centre half's fault.

It's still relatively early days, so if they are serving up these results against top of the table teams then the future is bright!

I thought their number 4 had a great game today! Would love to see us go in for someone like him!
