Those of us of a certain age (or those of us with nippers of a certain age) might appreciate this:

I saw the original once. It didn't float my boat so I haven't bothered with the others.

The same with Harry Potter actually.

Have to say that I'm enjoying introducing my youngsters to the new Star Wars films now that I am old enough to know better (and two of my young 'uns are old enough to now watch 'em).

It's possibly an age thing (or common sense/taste thing). My old man loved sci-fi, and he passed it on to me. We don't get on (for various reasons) but I'm carrying on the tradition with my nippers, so to speak.

For those of us that love Star Wars, this trailer is quite exciting.

I tried watching the original Star Wars a couple of times and found it bloody tedious.

I did quite enjoy the Phantom Menace which seems to be the worst of the lot according to obsessive SW aficionados. The boy likes the toys, games etc. but can't be arsed to watch the films so it looks like it'll be a while before I give 'em another go.

My lads (the youngest especially - he's 5) have really got the Star Wars bug. Disney has seriously ramped up its campaign to win over kids because the Star Wars brand is everywhere. Ironically, I didn't take my youngest to see the last film because it was rated 12A, and yet - because of Lego Star Wars and the Star Wars cartoons - he's probably the keenest of my three...

Seriously though, The Force Awakens wasn't a bad little film. If you thought The Phantom Menace was good (and each to their own), the last film to come out was enjoyable enough for what it was.

Gimme Interstellar any day of the week, mind. If you don't mind sci-fi movies, that's the one to watch (it's quite long, mind).

I do generally quite like Sci-Fi. Hitchhiker's Guide is one of my favourite books and I've read it several times. Red Dwarf is one of my all-time favourite programmes and I quite liked Star Trek as a kid but I've never really got on with Star Wars.

You're right about the Disney marketing machine. My lad is five and he's got Star Wars variants of everything!

I'm with you on all of that (apart from Star Wars), and my youngest is five as well!

Do check out Interstellar if you haven't already. The Martian was also pretty good as well, which surprised me somewhat.

Just like Independence Day, the Martian made me feel proud to be an American and I was quite emotional at times. I just loved the crazy idea of the African American for the rescue, the heroics of the Hispanic American and the Woman American. And the Disco Soundtrack. It's what will make America great again under Donald Trump.
Oops, just remembered I'm English thank God.

Thanks for that. As escapism shite, The Martian is enjoyable enough. There are some films that demand that you leave brain at the door; this is one of them - and it's A-O-kay if you do that. Nothing more.

Interstellar is mind blowing. Probably one of the best films I've seen

Interstellar is an incredible piece of work. Proper grown-up stuff, and the first sci-fi movie that my wife unit would happily watch again - she even stayed awake through it (and that's very unusual - she nods off all the bloody time. Even at the cinema!).

Would recommend the film to anyone.

I took the kids to watch one of the Star Wars films. That one with the ridiculous Ja Ja thingy in it. If I'd gone with the bride I'd have walked out.
Tried to watch one of the Harry Potter films on the tele. Nothing much happened in it.
Give me a film like Random Harvest, Kes (my late dad in law played the Headmaster in that) or The Wicker Man on the other thread

I've never seen a Rocky film, or any of the Godfather films...and even though I like sci-fi, I've never seen ET either.

I have a feeling that I haven't seen any of the Godfather films, either. I don't know how that could have happened, because, well, y'know, widely regarded as a being a bit good. I blame Sky Movies for that one.

Gave up on the Hobbit films. The Lord of the Rings movies was more than enough, and turning such a small book into a trilogy of movies seemingly just for the sake of cashing in on your previous success seemed to be a bit piss-take-y.

I've not seen the Godfather either - tried watching once when I was about 17 but I think I'd had a bit to drink and it was on quite late so I feel asleep after all of 5 minutes!

Love the Rocky films (at least, I love the first 4) and got a lot of time for ET.

Disney must be making a packet on merchandising, when these films are on you will have no problem selling anything related to star wars!.
