There was a time towards the end of Penney's reign when I thought Paul Green wasn't going to be good enough. He'd had a dip in form, it seemed like every second touch was a tackle, and (seeing as this is about being honest and admitting to errors of judgement) I thought he wasn't fit to lace Sean Thornton's boots. Proved me well and truly wrong. Thornton wasted his career and Green was better than ever in our promotion season. Would be great to see him back in a Rovers shirt one day.

Conversely, I remember Simon Ireland (the grinning winger) destroying us for Mansfield at the old Field Mill. After that game I was desperate for us to sign him. Eventually we did, and he did almost nothing.

Greeny when i was a small kid, used to sit in the middle of the pitch spraying passes about, his first touch seemed to be one of his strengths.
Then as he got older, he had a sudden growth spurt, and i think at the time he was trying to co-ordinate his feet to what he wanted them to do.
He went from about four foot something when he was a kid, to reaching sixteen/ seventeen and ending up quite a bit taller.
His first touch went bad during this growth spurt, then corrected itself back to normal when he was used to the body changes!.

 As he got older he changed himself into a box to box midfielder. That's why he ended up making it at pro level, he changed the way he played, to suit what the clubs needed from him!.
 He always had the ability, he used to run games from the centre of the field as a small kid, he was a good passer of the ball. He is also a more intelligent player than given credit for, his all round game is very good!.

There is a lot of players that didn't hit it off at the rovers but went on to have good careers elsewhere.Yes B Deane is the stand out one but Friend,and G Greer havnt done badly in the last few seasons.D Darby didn't do to badly the season he left.

   Greer was a strange one,was a brilliant signing for us on the face of it yet he spent nearly all his time here injured in Brooker fashion..We had to get rid in the end because we couldn't afford to keep such a injury prone player...
   Yet strangely since he left us,he's hardly had any injuries,plays every week and has turned out to be rather good....
