Question for the grammar experts
« on July 30, 2016, 07:26:42 am by Bentley Bullet »
Why do we go on a plane, on a boat, on a train, and on a bus, but go in a car and in a  lorry?

If you are sitting on the bus....how do know if the wheels on the bus are going round and around?

I think it is just a conjunction of prepositions

Maybe you board a bus, plane or boat but get into a car rather than board it.
These are services you pay a fare for. I know you can in a car as well but maybe that is the reason.

yepppp
you would board a charabang

so it seems size is everything --  thinking about it again "vertical height "  might come into it

the phrase "one step beyond" comes to mind !!

so if there is at least one step "boarding"   could be the order of the day

how are the "tablets" going Bentley  I can lend you some of mine

I guess the distinction is that buses, trains, planes are generally shared forms of transport. If I said  "I arrived in a plane" you might think I'd flown it myself.

That or it's a euphemism!

Because you are singing it at the same time as doing the actions.
Well at least we do when we have the granddaughter with us

If you are sitting on the bus....how do know if the wheels on the bus are going round and around?
Because the bus is moving?
