Apologies if it's already been fielded, but a question for the brains trust, when was the last time DR had 5 goals on the board, or won by 4.

Scunthorpe at home two years ago, won 5-2.
Crawley away, won 5-0.

Ah, but we didn't win by 4 in either of those fixtures so that leaves half the question unanswered.

I think you're right, Andrew

I think 5-1 vs Southend was later than that, wasn't it? ;)

Aye. Good call.
I was just about to wind up into a "we never scored 5 under O'Driscoll" rant.

Bristol C away, but that was 2-5...

Dutch or TRB will know, but I'm wondering if I saw our biggest ever away win. 6-0 at Hartlepool in 1989.

Have we ever bettered that?

Dunno, most I have seen us score is 7, but that was at home. Am too young for the 10 vs Darlo..

I do think we have a great chance of seeing 5 goals a few more times this season..

Wasn't there a 5-1 in an early round of the league cup or paint pot not too long ago, vs Bradford, or Lincoln or someone like that..?

According to this it's our biggest ever away win.

A moment of bliss in an ocean of f**king cack, that match was.

We won 7-4 at Ashington in the 20s but 6-0 is our biggest away winning margin.

Bradford. Same season as the Southend game but earlier.

Incidentally I remember us beating Newport 5-1 in November 1975. Ian Miller scored three. I think it was 1-1 or 2-1 with about 10 minutes to go. Then we ran riot. Bit like the last home game v Yeovil.

That Hartlepool match was surreal. We were absolute shite that season. I think we only scored 2 or three goals in the first dozen games that year, barring that match. But everything worked that day. Fourth or fifth goal was by Les Robinson. He ran into the box off the ball from the halfway line and for 20 yards was pointing to the exact place he wanted the ball playing I between the two centre halfs and screaming at Steve Gaughan to play the pass. Which he did. Perfectly. And Robinson hammered it in. Either side of that match, we couldn't hit a five yard pass on target in the warm up. But that day was like football perfection.

Remember that well. Day after BBC Children in Need. I offered £5 a goal for everyone scored by the then shot shy Rovers.
Never told my wife ( anyway ex now). Yes that's why we were on beans for a week, now you know. RTID

Ah, but we didn't win by 4 in either of those fixtures so that leaves half the question unanswered.

To be pedantic, the question was when did we last score 5 OR win by 4, not score 5 AND win by 4.
Therefore i did not need to answer both parts of the question Mike.

I remember us losing 7-4 in a howling gale at Shrewsbury. And more to the point, I remember the sublime 5-1 win away at Exeter when Firestarter had a good team. Best Rovers midfield display I've ever seen that. We'd have won by several more if, I think Jones, hadn't got himself sent off early in the second half.

Thanks John. I had a feeling it was wrong but I couldn't remember who else it was! Helluva performance that day though. Our erstwhile VSC Supporter Director thought it was one of the very best he'd ever seen too.

Cheers

I went to Exeter on  the opening day of that season and we played well, but they were that bit better, well organised defensively and I was not surprised when they won the league by 10 pts.Like you say BST,we had a poor run at the start of that season and could not get a win after 7 starts, but two of them were draws and three 1-0 defeats,we were getting better as the games went by and we just needed that bit of luck, and I thought we would break our duck in one of the 2 home games that were in them three 1-0 defeats(Southend and Aldershot),but luck was not on our side at the time, after losing the Aldershot game 1-0,my mate said to me,"Bremner's right, someones goner get on the end of a thrashing from us soon",then came the Pool away game!

Drover

I've just refreshed my memory of that season. It actually wasn't as bad as I'd thought.

First 15 matches were bloody awful. We won 2, drew 3 and lost 10. By the start of November, we were only off the bottom on goal difference.

Then we signed Jones and Noteman and had THAT match at Spotland and a run where we were the best team in the League up to Xmas. Then the LDV run, with Jonny Muir signing later.

The league form tailed off in the New Year but on the last day of the season at Glanford Park, even though we lost 4-1, Bremner sent the team back into the pitch to acknowledge the fans who'd been applauding for 10 mins. Special time, that was. You knew there was something coming together and I'm sure we'd have been promoted the following season if Jones and Muir hadn't got crocked.
