Why do you say that? On the basis of the evidence in the original trial, the jury found him guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. New evidence was presented in the second trial, and he was found not guilty. This is how the British legal system works. What is it about the system that you object to?

Far worse miscarriages of justice occur. I have no sympathy with him.
He's now been declared innocent but his own actions led to the problem.

Having read some of the unheard evidence, and I wouldn't profess to have read it all, it's a toss up who is the more promiscuous, Evans or the female he was alleged to have raped. As there is no evidence to suggest Evans has cheated on his girlfriend more than the once, I would suggest her. It would seem she was pretty free with her favours.

Rape is an awful crime which is very difficult to prove, and very difficult to defend against. The problem is, alleged rape victims are not named where as the alleged rapist is, even if he is eventually found not guilty. The life of the alleged rapist is often ruined even if they are found not guilty. It is my belief that no-one accused of rape should be named until found guilty.

It is very easy for a girl to shout rape, especially if she already has a boyfriend which is relatively common, when she has consented to sex, often resulting in the ruination of someone's life

I'm dubious about the jury system in this country, a dozen amateurs making the final decision after listening to professionals deliberating over a case, seems a bit of a lottery to me.

Even half of the contributors to this thread would probably give a different verdict to the other half. Can you imagine Idler giving his influence as jury foreman?

But none of us have seen ALL the evidence presented to both juries, have we?

The legal system has prevailed, and in my opinion Evans is now fully justified in continuing his career..  The allegations he faced, in the eyes of the law, have now not been proven.  That's it, game over.

However, at the time of the first trial he was convicted, therefore any opinions expressed at that time - especially by outsiders like me and everyone else on here - were valid at the time.

And, and this doesn't necessarily apply to Evans' case, being found "not guilty" doesn't mean you didn't commit the crime, just that the court couldn't prove it to the jury beyond reasonable doubt.  The system therefore allows the truly guilty to go scot free, and the innocent to be convicted.  There is probably a very big grey area in between.

The Scots have a verdict of "not proven" which I always found to be more accurate.

Back to Evans, I stand by everything I have said at any time about him and this case.  Especially the bits about keeping his head down (in football terms) until the legal process was complete.  Now that is over, he can get on with it.  OK he will get dogs abuse from many fans regardless, but in terms of resurrecting his career, that's a no brainer now.
