Cashback Self Service Checkout
« on October 30, 2016, 07:59:03 am by roverstillidie91 »
Asda at Stainforth I left 20 quid after requesting cash back and it wasn`t there when I got back. Store manager can clearly see on CCTV who has taken it. Reported it online through South Yorkshire Police. Anyone an idea my chances of catching the person? I know it was my fault but why can`t people be honest and hand it in?

Police seem to have abandoned "low level crime" such as litter dropping, mobile phone using even though that can be really dangerous and even with a House Break in they often just give you a Crime number - so I don't think they will go after the person who has your £20

They don't look for certain missing people sometimes till a time period has been met and they would say your £20 going is not a crime as the person may have taken it intending to keep it safe and try and contact you

Who knows - that might happen - but I like you probably doubt it will happen and I reckon that you have seen the last of the £20 and that the Police will show no interest at all

(Let us know)

Will let you know the outcome mate.

A shame they do not prioritise as people decide not to report things in the future.

Highly doubt they would keep it and contact me as they wouldn`t know who I was anyway, the person held it in the air like u do and thought got free cash here.

Should at least put a picture up on their facebook/twitter or main website page.

But like u said let see! Thanks

Same thing happened to my lad,he told the store manager to save the tape, took the Police 6 weeks to investigate it as they are on their ##rse after the now Primeministers cut backs. As Home Secretary.
Normal Police services will resume in about 10 years from now.

Hands up, who on here would be tempted to take the money?

I was once behind a woman using a cash machine. She turned and walked away and as I walked forward to put my card in a wad of notes came out. Obviously belonging to the woman, I shouted her and she turned and came back. I said "You haven't taken your money"! She looked at me indignantly and said "I didn't ask for any"! I said "You must have pressed the wrong button"! She said "No, I didn't"! So I said "Well, do you want me to have it"? She then snatched the money, gave me a dirty look, and buggered off!

I worked at Tesco for a while and once gave a gentleman a tenner too much with his cash back. He came back about 5 minutes later and gave me it.

Bit off topic but was nice to see. Saved me a lot of hassle.

I walked away from Morrisons self check out and left £50 in the slot.
I didn't realise until I went to the bar six hours later.
Rang them up and it had been handed in by one of their staff.
It's nice to know that there are still some honest people about.

It doesn't matter how you look at it it's theft! It wasn't that long ago the Free Press published a CCTV picture of someone picking a tenner up off the floor in an Asda the police wanted him identifying for theft and not handing it in to the staff.    OTT perhaps bit there you go

Is it legally theft if you find money at a machine? Never been that lucky but just wondering...

Isn't there an offence of theft by finding?
Hand anything found in and if it isn't claimed it's yours after three months.

Yes, that's true. Mate of mine got a proverbial slap on the wrist when he took some seemingly abandoned pallets on Moorends rec a few years ago.

Theft is all to do with the intent to deprive the legal owner permanently, of his or her goods.

I knew a lad in the forces got court martialled for theft - amongst other items he had taken a video player from a colleague who was on duty overseas.  His argument was that he thought it was safe left in the boot of his car, parked insecurely off base, than left in a locked room in a behind the wire barrack block with armed guards patrolling the site.

He didn't get off!

You can't betamax security, behind the wire barrack block with armed guards patrolling the site, for preventing your video player being nicked while you're overseas.

I have a part time job tidying up the streets near where I live, and over the years I have found roughly £40, and I've kept the money. Not found it all at once £5 here £5 there, should I have handed that in ? Also I bet at least 95 per cent of people on here have kept money they have found in the street over the years

Finding £5 in the street is slightly different though.
I've lost money from my pocket before and never reported it as I wasn't sure where it went and couldn't think that it would be handed in.
My son has twice walked away early morning from bank ATM machines and forgot the money. Once his account was credited and once it wasn't.
I have heard that if the cash isn't taken within 30 seconds the machine sucks it back in and cancels the transaction, don't know if it's true.

Without going into details basically yes it will,  thats when your account is recredited however if someone walks past and takes the money youve lost it, unless of course there's proof to who took it then it becomes theft

A railway guard I know many years ago found a carrier bag with alot of bank notes inside. Handed them in & was later challenged by the police that the person who had left the carrier bag claimed that the carrier contained more than was handed in. The issue was never resolved, but he did wonder if honesty paid.

I was given an extra £90 in my change at Asda Scunny a few years ago. I took a step away from the Check out before "we" decided to return the loot as the Check out Lady could have copped a roasting

She called the Check out Supervisor who could not stop thanking me. She sent me to choose a bottle of wine and actually shouted " and don't get a cheap one !" I did not get a cheap one so honesty did pay for me !

I've never been lucky enough to find anything more than a couple of quid lying around in the street but here are a couple of things that have happened o people I know. What would you do here:

1. A friend was using a public toilet in a town centre and saw an envelope hidden down the back of the cistern which contained £1k in cash. Assumed it was some sort of drug payment drop. Would you take it?

2. Someone I know was following a scally on a trail bike (no helmet, lights etc.) down Sheffield Parkway when he saw some bits of paper dropping from the lad's pocket. Pulled over in a layby and picked up a few hundred quid in notes. Seemed to my acquaintance to be too much cash for the lad to have acquired honestly. What would you do?

1. Wait for the drugs.

2. Use the money to buy drugs.
