Video - Rovers v Halifax FA Cup 1st Round 1999
« on November 03, 2016, 05:24:20 pm by RM452 »
Given that is FA Cup time again I have dug out this Match of the Day footage of our FA Cup tie in 1999 against Halifax Town and stuck it online.  I remember the build up to this game was pretty significant with the cameras coming, then.. well.. we got beat.

I am sure one of the statto's will tell us but I am sure that was our first featured game on Match of the Day.

Chris Tate playing up front for them. Always seemed to score against us, and was a right shit bag at the same time!

Didn't big ears say that at the start? Jamie Patterson scored a good second goal, then went on to be a star for us

Brilliant RM! Thank you. To see Colin Sutherland again has brought tears to my eyes. Brilliant. I loved that guy. What a dirty bas**rd he was :)

I'd forgotten just how bad a miss that was by the Mule too. A proper shocker.

He said it was their first visit to Belle Vue. I seem to remember reading a stat in the early 90s that there was only about 4 teams in the league at that time had never been featured on Match of the Day and we were one of them.

On Lineker's ears, He has put weight on since his playing days his face was thinner back then having not being finished as long. Chris Tate he played against us many times and scored in most or so it seemed. I remember one game he scored a twenty yarder and did nothing else for the rest of the game.
He seemed to me somebody who did the bare minimum in a game. At the time we would have loved him playing for us.

I seem to recall that Tate was coming to join us at some point but then backtracked and moved to another club, which just increased the love and warmth we all had for him

Edit: and I've just watched it where the commentator said the same.  D'oh!

Remember that game well, plus all the hype that went with it locally.

I'm pretty sure we tried to sign Tate at one point. Think Ian Snodin knew him from their Scarborough days and gave it a go.

He most certainly fell in to that category of striker who always scored against us ..... sadly there were/are many  :crying:

Yep. Around that time (mid-late 90's) there was a big lump by the name of Jason White who always seemed to score past us.

Since then there have been plenty of others. Leroy Lita, Jermaine Easter and The Kitson to name but three.

Conversely, I never, ever worried when Nathan Tyson played against us, labelling him a one-trick pony with pace but no end product. By the time he left us I was disappointed to see him go!

A lot of the media attention before the game was focused on Mike Newell (I think I have the football focus from that day where is is interviewed pre match somewhere too) and then that miss from 3 yards sort of summed up his Rovers spell.
Also, rare to see a fit Shaun Goodwin and nice to see Simon Marples flying down the flank again!

The thing I remember most about Chris Tate was someone yelling where's your wheelchair gone? In relation to Chris Tate from Emmerdale

Me and my brother might have mentioned this a time or two . One was a bitter soulless man the other appeared on Emmerdale.
