More Goalscoring stats from today
« on November 19, 2016, 05:19:57 pm by Dutch Uncle »
As remarked in the lucky pint, John Marquis reached 10 league goals in the 17th league game - the quickest since Glyn Snodin in 1984-85. Also despite the fact that significantly more goals were scored by all teams before ca 1970, this is the 15th equal quickest in our history.

Scoring in each of our first 17 league matches has only been beaten twice - the first 21 games in 1946-47 and the first 18 games of 1956-57.

Actually it is the first time he has actually reached 10 in a season ;)

To be fair to him Dutch I think we are the 1st permanent club that he has had that has given him the game time. Out of interest how many appearances per season has he had during his career?

Right up there as one of my favourite players.
I mentioned at the game today that someone had said early doors that. JM wouldn't score many goals for us.

I love him. Knows where the goal is, links up well with the rest of the attacking players, a real character and a proper shithouse as well. What a man.

If he were playing against us I'd hazard a guess he'd be a right Kitson.

Needless booking though. Can't wait for Williams to get back and with Mandeville coming of age, January window around the corner, we could be in for a great ride!

How long until McSheffery is fit? He will be a real attacking force in this league I reckon.

How many bookings has Marquis had, anyone know.
I had a feeling that he may be on the edge of a suspension.

If the card was after the melee, from where I sat it looked like he booked the Hartlepool player and others around me remarked that Marquis was lucky not to get booked.

AS I'VE POSTED ON HERE BEFORE

he buzzed my radar a long while ago when Millwall in the championship kept loaning him out he scored a wind assisted goal for Gillingham against Rovers think it was here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/31670101

"Striker John Marquis scored his seventh goal in 10 games to earn Gillingham a well-earned point at home to Doncaster Rovers."

just a shame he can't take a penalty (hint hint )

THE ABOVE MEANS HE SCORED 7 GOALS IN 10 GAMES

game set and match

by the way there are penalties given every 3rd game to a team so this "non contact" sport formerly known as football is totally ruining scoring stats with "cheap" penalties

here's my post from June

Northampton and Oxford both got promotion by signing on loan players that were too good for this division

and now I remember thinking Marquis was far too good for the 4th division

on that basis I have to admit THAT IS ONE HELL OF A SIGNING

THANK GOODNESS FOR BILLY SHARP I SAY !!!

because the blades new manager can't really get rid of Sharpe (he has made him captain )
because if sharpe wasn't there I feel certain Marquis would have followed the x Northampton manager to sheff united

It is six. That No. 22 was lucky not to walk for the way he launched into Mandeville. No intention to play the ball whatsoever.

I'm surprised how many goals he's scored. Having said that I didn't think we would create as many chances as we do.

Although at times we still look like we want to walk it in at times. Would like to see more shots from the edge when the opportunity is there.

I thought he would get a fair few goals in this league, probably not as many as he has so far. He is enjoying being a permanent signing rather than a loan. There are a lot of players out there like him who's goal record doesn't look prolific. Sometimes they need a permanent move to get their best performances. He knows he is rated highly that means a lot to any player.

Our longest run in league games is 27 games in 1934-35. That is not counting an abandoned game in middle of that run, and in which we did score.

Checking current league clubs, the longest league run I can find is 55 games by Arsenal starting on 19 May 2001. That may be the longest ever, but I haven't been able to quickly check teams no longer in the league.
