Players from the 1950s still living
« on November 23, 2016, 01:48:24 pm by The Red Baron »
On Monday SM and I were interviewed by a TV producer who is putting together a documentary about Charlie Williams.

She has asked me if any of Charlie's contemporaries at DRFC are still alive. Obviously Harry Gregg, who was a close friend of Charlie is still living and I think I have found a way she could get in touch with him.

I wondered if anyone was aware of players from the 50s who were still alive and would be willing and able to talk to her about their memories of Charlie? I have a feeling Brian Makepeace and Reece Nicholson are still alive, for example.

Any help gratefully received. Please feel free to send a PM if you prefer.

I have no idea at all, but your post reminded me of the respect shown to Charlie at Belle Vue when he passed - this was one of my first experiences of a minute's applause instead of silence, which I found very moving and highly appropriate.

Good luck with the project - this is something I would love to see!

JR seemed to be behind the testimonial type event for Makepeace when we left Belle Vue ten years ago (TEN YEARS!) so he might be good place to start - if we are allowed to mention his name on here anymore.
