Odds for tonight
« on January 05, 2017, 08:53:37 am by Jenny »
Portsmouth are slight favourites, despite us sitting top of the league, sitting 7 points above them. We've won 8 of the last 10 home games and Portsmouth have won 5 of their last away games. We also sit above them in the overall form table over the last 10 games, winning one game more.

Makes you wonder how bookies get to their odds, lets hope people make a few quid on backing the underdogs

Pompey fan here. We're usually favourites with the bookies, regardless of whether we should be, because more money gets put on us, hence the odds are shorter to stop the bookies losing a fortune. I wouldn't take any notice of it, other than a lot of Pompey fans liking a flutter.

We were favourites but there's been a massive gamble on Pompey. I'm not sure why. We are 11/8 out to 2/1. That's a huge move. The fact that it's on TV means it may be of interest to the Asian betting markets. It they take a view we follow. Unless there's some sort of virus in the camp I don't know. 2/1 seems a crazy price to me but these moves tend to happen for a reason. I'll investigate.

Had a word with my man in the know at one of the big firms. He says the big betting syndicates are heavy on Pompey, the syndicates like Star Sports that the Brighton owner Tony Bloom owns. They have bombs on. They are still adamant that Pompey are the best side in the division apparently.

This isn't Tony Bloom, chairman of one of the clubs with the biggest debts in the football league, Tony Bloom is it?

Might stick a tenner on Rovers.

Yes. The team storming clear at the top of the championship. Another gamble he's going to win.

Hopefully. A good return on investment for syndicates like this would be 10% over a year so they are the small edges they are dealing with. They think they have bet a 6/4 chance at 2/1. That makes them only a 7% more likely winner but that's the small margins they work to.  They are still odds on not to win, a 4/6 chance in fact.

He's not a director of the company any more so no rules broken I wouldn't imagine.

Just seen Sky Bet. Pompey 1.7/1, Rovers 2.0/1, Draw 2.3/1. Something very odd here.

Just had a tenner on us at just over 2/1 on Betfair. On current form with our home record we should be 6/4 at best so to get over 2/1 is a great value bet.

that Pompey are the best side in the division apparently.
[/quote]

second best  ...   it's "double cream" versus "single cream"

rovers being double cream

could bill the match as Rovers versus Rovers rejects

they started hedging Rovers a long while ago trying to  get six grand on - with one firm and they shorten Rovers up across the board taking NOT the smartest odds after a round of matches

i think they hedged Plymouth before Rovers

by the way
did you know there are more away wins in this division than home wins I am sure Fergie knows this   I WAS SHOCKED AT THIS FACT

update
paddy power will give you 13/5 Gary McSheffrey to score at any time another 11/4 ---  smart bookmakers or wot ... really in the know

Have the EFL invited Mick Russell to ref the game as a last minute change?

We're currently at just under 2/1. I'll wait and see if odds improve. Could be a sweet last minute improvement.

On oddschecker it suggests the amounts places on us and Pompey are about even.

I just managed to get £50 on at 2/1 on sky bet and seconds later it dropped to 19/10 - I don't generally bet on rovers as a win is usually sweet enough but couldn't resist 2/1!!  :boxing:

2/1 are ridiculous odds. Very suspicious.

Had a £15 bet on at 2/1 with Skybet.

However, I must confess the last bet I had on rovers was when everyone was getting excited at the high odds for Billy Sharp to be our top scorer. Didn't do too well that one if I remember correctly

Whenever I've backed us to win we lose.
I don't bother now for the good of the team.

Still not getting back to 2/1 despite a lot of later betting seeing to be heading Portsmouth's way.

Cheers Jenny for pointing out the 2/1 - I hadn't looked until I read your post and the fact that the bookies were insulting TLO Donny p*ssed me off enough to have a bet. I look forward to further insulting odds in the future (although they're not daft and I think we may be shorter in future!).

Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge your part in my success!   :clapping:

Backed 3-1 and a nice little earner on a goal kick inside the first minute.

Using the new type of kick off the throw ins in the first 10 seconds are not happening as much so quick Goal Kicks may be the way to go !
