Checkatrade Trophy on TV !! Liverpool U21 v Plymouth 0-0 why No Penalties ?

Had to go out this lunchtime so set the video to record instead of taping an FACup match I seem to have taped a Checkatrade Trophy match - trouble is nobody seems to have told the crowd it's a checkatrade Trophy match On top of that when the match was a draw and I was waiting for penalties to see whether any Liverpool player got "abused" (like Mandeville was ) if he missed -- penalties never happened . To my knowledge Liverpool didn't even enter this competition . Can someone please explain what is going on ??
