time we played them in conference.

Went darn dole ,cashed giro

Went t pub got plastered ,

Went back home beat up wife ,cause Iam a donny bar stad

Or a even better one

It was in the groom when the Lads took the tap room

there was bottles flying over as the Sara's lads took over

as we all stood there with our pint pots in the air singing saracens saracens .

Thanks Bally I'll sleep tonight now.
I had the song going round in my head but couldn't get past the original unless I hummed it.
Happy days.

Ken Leek was then a club record signing for City at£10,000.
Living in Bradford for the last 38 years I've a lot of City supporting mates.
One once told me that after signing him they were discussing as they walked across the car park to the game.
A Rovers die hard piped up "don't worry Ripley will cripple him".
I think it would be more likely to have been John Wylie then as Keith Ripley was on his way out.
It ended 1-1, that seemed to be the result every time we played them home or away for a season or two.

I remember we used to sing Rovers Rovers they're the team for me a bit.
Lifted from the Heinz beans advert.
I remember singing that at Oxford 1965.

I remember one that went:-

Two Pound
Two Pound Ten
Forty Thousand Rovers Men
Prostitutes On Every Corner
Two Pound
Two Pound Ten

Was never quite sure what it meant...

I liked that one. Also the Joe Laidlaw song (probably my favourite of all time.)

Sorry to be pedantic (again) Idler, but it was HP baked beans! The Rovers version was written by one of the Rovers directors, can't remember which one.

It went something like

Rovers, Rovers, they're the team for me
Rovers, Rovers, that's what we agree
Rovers, Rovers, they're who we adore
When we score we shout for MORE MORE MORE!

Rovers, Rovers they're the team for me
Rovers, Rover, That's what we agree
What's the team we all like best?
Rovers, Rovers!

To this tune ......

I always liked "Always look on the bright side of life.............da da .....da da da da da da" - trouble is it was usually sung when we were getting hammered! Doh!

Oh, and there was the classic at Boston, when we last celebrated winning div 2, away on the last day of the season:

Your father is your brother
Your sister is your mother
You all sh@g one another
The Boston family

I'm not sure if Rovers fans sang this but it did the rounds on the terraces of one or two clubs back then.....

He's a bald headed b@stard dressed in black
Dressed in black, dressed in black, dressed in black black black (rpt)

Every time we score a goal he tells us no!
Every time we score a goal he tells us no!

.............To the tune of; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HsZJBxY_8k

Tiptoe through the Belle Vue
With your boots on, get your head kicked in
So tiptoe, through the Belle Vue with me.

Sang to the tune Tiptoe through the Tulips, by Tiny Tim.

They seemed far more anti-police back then - verbally anyway.

Who's that tw@t with the big Black hat?
Scuffer, scuffer
Who's that tw@t with the big Black hat?
Scuffer is his name
On the beat all day, on the wife all night
Who's that tw@t with the big Black hat?
Scuffer is his name

I also remember the song about Harry Roberts the cop killer, I wont post it because it would cause offence.

Hark now hear, the Rovers sing
The Rotherham ran away
And we will fight forever more
Because of Saturday

And one that I've not heard for absolutely years, but was widely sung for a time..

You're going home in a Donny Ambulance
