Strolling just strolling by the light of the moon above
We dont envy the rich in their automobiles
A motor car is phoney I'd rather s@#g a pony
When you're strolling just strolling
When you're strolling witn the team you love
THE ROVERS THE ROVERS

Belter ... forgot that one entirely !

Marvin's got comedy sideburns,
Marvin's got a ten bob hat,
And if you shout it loud enough,
He'll kick you in the tw@£!

Corby went to Market to buy a big fat pig,
He didn't have a penny, so he did a magic trick!

Palo had two Rabbits, one was a Belgian Buck, he put them both together to see if they would ..... Play

Was it from a second world war film?
Something like "from the shores of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.
A US Marines song.

He's only a poor little scunny
His face is all tattered and torn
He made me feel sick
So I hit him with a brick
And now he don't sing anymore

++++++Resurrected Thread alert ++++++
Prompted by the Things you miss about Rovers Thread.

I remembered an old Chant and looked back and searched to find this Thread and it did not appear - so here it is :

Who's that team they Call the Rovers
Who's that team we all adore
We''ll be singing in the Stand
"got the best Team in the land"
and we're knocking on Promotions do-oo-oo-or !

We dont care if the sun dont shine
WHAT the Hell do we care
for we only know if there's gonna be a show
That Donny Rovers will be there

Cant see a comeback for that one either !

There must be more - add any ones you think of and it / they will be here in the "ether" forever !

Hark now hear, the Rovers sing
The Rotherham ran away
And we will fight forever more
Because of Saturday

And one that I've not heard for absolutely years, but was widely sung for a time..

You're going home in a Donny Ambulance

Used to love that one :)

Harry Roberts is our friend, is our friend, is our friend
Harry Roberts is our friend, he kills coppers

Shoots the bas**rds with his gun
With is gun, with his gun, Harry Roberts!

Usually sang when a line of coppers walked along the popside

Filo. I dont know if you were around in 66 when Roberts shot three unarmed cops. It was just before my time, i was but a three yr glint in my fathers eye at this point. Roberts, was of course released infamously in 2014 having served 48 yrs in prison, at the age of 78.
How times change though. I'm not so sure his actions, if committed now, would gain any support in 2017.
He was lucky in 66 as he was convicted of the murders just 8 months after the abolition of the death penalty in the uk. He was told upon conviction that he was lucky to escape the noose.
The song used to glorify his name is of course embedded in terrace culture - and has been for years. But just think about it for a moment. He killed three men, aged 25,31 and 41. He was about to commit an armed robbery when officers approached him. He had been convicted of numerous others also.
I suspect there is many a young 'un sings this without any knowledge of the history behind it.
This is sad.
I, like him, served my queen and country for 14 years in the armed forces.  Since 1999 i have served my queen under the same uniform he chose to murder.

The Yorkshire Traction Bus song, but I can't remember the words

From ScillyRover July 2015

We follow Donny Rovers
The Rovers follow us
We follow them all over
In a Yorkshire Traction bus
We follow them to Torquay, Bournemouth, Brighton too,
Wherever you are playing
Rovers, we will always follow you ...
Singing .. (clap, clap, clap) ...
Rovers !!
(Showing my age now ... :)
