' DONKEYS' as in the model ones that holiday makers would bring back from salo, benidorm,Palma etc etc in the 1970s and 1980s.

Was this myth or did it actually happen, and if so why on earth would anyone buy a model donkey as a memory or keep sake.

How the fcuk did you feal landing at Luton via dan air with a donkey under your arm.

I suppose the point is that at one time people didn't feel there was anything odd about bringing a model donkey back as a holiday souvenir. Then the satirists got to work...

I just can't get it round me head why anyone would bring a model donkey back with them.

They could not fit in your allready full case or hand luggage .they had to be carried under your arm  how on earth did this craze start.

I take it that no bugger will put their hands up to bringing said item back to blighty from espaina so I will draw up a list of possible offenders .

Was on the coach taking us back to the airport after a week in Crete ,and the couple sat in front of us all most missed the coach back as they was buying a big bag of limes to take back to Wigan.

I was gob smacked ,and even more confused when the chap from Wigan said 'limes' as it did not sound like how you spell it.

I really don't think that's anything we have to worry about, although I suppose a pre-season tour is possible one day.

When I left U.K. For norway I was on the dole .

My first paid job out here was picking strawberries all summer.

the  day someone invents a strawberry bush/shrub that's at chest height will make a fortune.

Confession time.

I brought a Donkey back from Spain in the late 70's . It was intended for my new bird that I'd only just met shortly before I went on holiday. Unknown to me she'd decided to blow me out while I was away , so I was left with an unwanted donkey .

I ended up giving it to my sister, who loved it, and still does to this day!

We have a live one, fcuk  me bentleybullet.

So it was love that made you purchase a Spanish underarm donkey, the things we do for love as the song went.

So I can't really question your mind set when buying it as you have answered that.

Did you have a name for said donkey fella?

Absolutely true !

I remember boarding a Flight home once and I said "at least we have not seen any of those Bloody Donkeys - maybe the novelty has worn off " Then as we got off the Coach at the Plane there they were a long long line of them - maybe 20 to 30 waiting to go in the Hold ! pmsl

I once brought home, under my arm, quite a large collection of cut glass tumblers, wineglasses and bowls from Prague. But I can't say I've ever had the fancy to stick a donkey under my arm. I like things that have some value Facebook.

Cheers

Thing is Bob, Benidorm's about as much renowned for cut glass as Prague is for toy donkeys!

One regret was not buying a Rovers Russian Doll from Prague. I went twice and they were everywhere ! Every Team from every sport and each had 5 or 6 "Dolls". I thing Steve Foster was our "biggest and our tiny one was Macca if I remember right with Greeny the 2nd smallest

Bet someone on here got one !

When I worked for the Pru I used to go in hundreds of houses. It was amazing how many had a flamenco dancer, bull or castanets on show.
I think that part of it was a momento of the first generation of working class people going abroad in large numbers.
It was just a follow on from bringing tat back from Brid. Blackpool and Yarmouth etc.
