Back in the day, the DJ in the Coach & Horses had a list of songs that he was forbidden to play because the whole pub would go absolutely crackers.

Tell us more about this ,as I find it amazing that a dj has his hands tied to what songs he can
not play for fear of the pub going crowd getting out of hand.

Was it during the teddy boy days?

This was in the 80's mate. Too Much Too Young by The Specials was definitely on the banned list as was One Step Beyond by Madness. I wasn't really into that music but a few lads who we knocked about with were into Two Tone, Punk and the like. Whenever they asked the DJ to play music of that genre he would tell them that he couldn't because when he had done before people went nuts so the governor there banned it.

On the subject of Teddy Boys though, my Uncle Jim was a Ted in the 50's and they would drink in the White Swan. Apparently that was a really rough boozer in those days and almost everyone in there was carrying a razor or a bike chain. If that was happening today the press would be up in arms about it.

So the specials and madness tracks would basically fill up the dance floor with mainly lads and things would get out of order.

This true story will make you laugh HH

I was working upstairs in a  small bar in olso about 15 years ago ,and it was packed upstairs for Friday after work session.it was my job to serve the bar and controll the door ,but I was that busy behind the bar I could not keep a eye on the door so had no real idea who and what and how many had walked in and gone to downstairs bar.

Then at about 20:00 the nirwegian bar from downstairs and said too me ' ddr we have a big problem downstairs'

So I had to go down and have a look .

Customers had been complaining to the noggy bar man .

There was about 40 skin heads with most of them without no shirts on with Nazi tattoos on show all over stomping around on the dance floor to the rock music that was been blastered out.

It was obvious that all these skinheads who were from Norway,Sweden,Denmark and Germany had been brining their own whisky in and drinking as they was falling all over each other.

If the controll came in and saw this  the pub would get closed down
for 3 months.

So I told thr noggy bar man to turn all the lights up downstairs and play a Georgian church music cd that we had behind the bar.

Noggy bar man said ' how will this help us we need them all out now'

'Knut I to him that there was no way a van load of police would get this lot out peacefully so just trust me on this'

I went back upstairs to work thr upstairs bar and within 30 mins all the skinheads had come upstairs in drips and drabs said thank you for such a great night. And fcuked off.

Time now was 21;00 and noggy bar man was gob smacked.

I got talking to one of the Norwegian skinheads who was downstairs in the pub that night and he told that they all left because they thoughg it was 03:30 in morning when pubs close cause all the lights went on and some really shit music was been played.

Good story NOF - I'm sure that most people (me included) would want to get in touch with the law to sort it out but that would have caused an even bigger problem I'm sure!

Out here back then if you had to call the law to help you with the general public in your bar it could go against your pub if it happens 3 times.

The oslo powers that be will then say that you don't have full controll in your pub at certain times and force certian aspects onto your pub.

The main one been doormen > which sends out the wrong signal about your pub and brings in far more higher running costs ,and back then the doormen were not leicenced like they are today.
