Apparently there will be major disruption in trains from Waterloo August weekend. Not sure the best way of getting to the ground. I think the nearest station is Norbiton but don'tvthink that line is open that weekend.

There are trains out of Waterloo on that weekend... just not many of them as they're closing platforms 1-14.
Norbiton station is closed though, so other options nearby are New Malden or Berrylands; or you can go into Kingston if you're planning a day of it. Trains from Waterloo to Kingston are every half hour, and from Waterloo to New Malden roughly every quarter of an hour.

Another option would be to get the Northern line to Tooting Broadway from Kings Cross, then jump on the 131 bus which stops right outside Tooting Broadway station. Cons are it takes a little longer, but pros are that it drops you off bang outside Kingsmeadow and probs more reliable than the train on that weekend...
