Rovers in 1999 ("Where We Came From #1")
« on August 02, 2017, 03:09:51 pm by RoversAlias »
Hi folks,

Something a bit different for you all today, as I've dug out my old programmes and newspapers on Rovers to do a new feature called 'Where We Came From', starting with the match day programme from my first Rovers game in 1999.

I've put an article together around several photos of things that were in the magazine that day, with some fascinating reminders of what life was like both in and out of football some 20 years ago nearly. Mike Newell, Ian Snodin, good old J.R. and even a fresh-faced youth scholar named Paul Green all feature, found at the link below:

https://intotheemptynet.wordpress.com/2017/08/02/where-we-came-from-1-fgr-aug-14-1999-2000/

I must admit I had a lot of fun researching and writing this piece, so I hope it's a nice little trip down memory lane (albeit more recent for some of you who have been going many years more than me!). Let me know what you think of the feature and offer up your own memories from our simple yet fun days in the Nationwide Conference.

Thanks as ever for reading, means a lot.

I have to go back further than that
First recollection I have is about 1972 ish playing Stockport at OBV I think it was 5-2 (maybe DU can firm up details)

Might it have been Southport Dude?

We beat them 5-2 at OBV in 1975

Not too many 5-2 scorelines around about that time, although we did beat Workington by that score in 1973.

Edit: Yet another good read RA.
