I recall when he was on loan for rovers from notts forest .

He did quite well during his time with DRFC and sole reason why rovers did not splash out £15,000 transfer fee that was set for woodcock was that rovers had to spend that money on floodlights upgrade.

That's how I recall it after reading about it in the Doncaster evening press newspaper back then ( sure it was called that )

Now my memory is cloudy can someone 2nd or 3rd my claims.

After woodcock left rovers he went back to forest and then arsenal bought him and he ended up turning out for England.

There was mention of us never having a chance to buy him on a thread a couple of months or so. I think it might have been a Peter Catt story.

He was offered to Chesterfield for £9000 who could not afford it and was part of the Tony Curren deal I think with a view to come to us if proving good enough as a winger replacement for Curren.
After a couple of games Kitchen picked up an injury, and he was switched inside as a striker and started scoring, inflating the price Forest wanted for him.
But he was recalled when Curren picked up a bad injury and did well when he went back.

So the upgrade of new floodlights at BV were never in the equation of rovers been able to sign woodcock or not ?

It might have been that forest wanted 25k for woodcock ,but rovers had to splash out 15k on the floodlights so pulled out of the deal to sign woodcock for 25k.

If I was sat at a card table I go all in with my Chips > woooooossshhh> that the floodlights upgrade played a part in rovers not getting woodcock.

Your account was wrong Brian Clough said he was not for sale as he was going to be a big name one day .

Yes the above. The myth has grown over the years that we could have had him for peanuts.
No chance.

The price went up because of him scoring goals for us after we converted him to a striker from a winger.
Forest recalled him because of an injury to Curren in their 2nd division promotion season I think it was.

Brian Clough offered Woodcock to Rovers but then manager Stan Anderson advised him to stay at Forest because he had a great future and would be wasted at Rovers.

It proved in time that Anderson's judgement was better than Clough's on that occasion.

Did Stan phone and tell you that BB?
Or did the crystal ball mention it.

He's still got the same hair style that he had at Notts Forest in the 1970's.  Great player though and knew where the goal was!

Tommy, I can't remember whether someone told me, or I read it somewhere. I did, however, end up with Stan's Crystal Ball!

and I thought it was £30,000 and a FREE bag of soft (not hard) humbugs from that old lady every match  as a sweetner.   Bless her.

Speaking to Brian Clough in Calla Millor where he went every summer, he told me if they had come up with £10,000 they could have had him.

Not all Rovers for sure probably 70 % - with a few Wolves 10% - and a quite a few probably 20% where I just Ground visited e.g. Darlo v Wycombe !

To get them all via Rovers is a great achievement !
