Are there any appearance records left for Copps to break, Dutch?

Funny you should ask that CBCB.  If you buy the next Fanzine (nr 91) you will find out in excruciating detail  ;)

Good man, Dutch.

Go on then. Dick waving time.

I was at the following matches
Workington
Exeter
Reading
Hartlepool
Crook Town

Anyone beat that?

Mind, to balance it up, I also saw most of our matches under Cusack, so my average goals per game is pretty poor.

Was that the 6-3 v Workington in 1977? I was at that one but missed Exeter and Hartlepool.

TRB

Yep, that was the one. Night match late on in the season. I think Workington dropped out of the league that year.

Yep

Eight goals in total on Saturday. As far as I recall I've only seen eight or more goals on two occasions:

Rovers 5-4 Dover
Telford 4-4 Rovers

I missed the thumpings at Orient and Forest. IIRC we also shipped eight goals at Crewe when we were in the Conference?

Yes lost 8-3 at Crewe it was a JPT match. Could have been 12-12  Dean Ashton scored 3 for Crewe.

I was there. Ashton was unplayable. Went on to play for England.

I have seen Rovers have three high scoring games with Darlington.
The 10-0 and two 6-3's.

There were 36 goals in the 4 match sequence in autumn 1982; 6-1, 7-5, 3-6, 4-4 and I saw them al!!

Reading 7-5 1982
Wigan 3-6 1982
Brentford 4-4 1982
Forest 0-8 1997
Dover 5-4 1998
Crewe 0-8 2002
Telford 4-4 2002

Point of info BST. Crook Town was 7-0, not 7-1.

So did I. Bad thing about the Brentford game was we were 4-1 up and they were down to ten-men.

1879.

Me too.

A report after the Brentford match made a brilliant observation. They said that with 20 mins to go, Rovers were up 6-1, 7-5, 3-6, 4-1 but failed to go on to win game, set and match.

I'm guessing no other club in the modern era has ever had a run of home results like that.

I saw them all as well.
Unbelievable sequence of scores. Unlikely to see that again.

I wonder if we are the only club in the world that has twice been 4-1 up in the second half against 10 men, and not won either match?

Brentford 1982.
Telford 2002.

Edit:
Correction. It was 4-2 when Telford had a man sent off.

Interesting fact. The previous record score for Rovers in the Football League - 9-2 v Carlisle United - was set on 25th January 1947.

Colin Booth (2)

Always struck me as odd that Alick Jeffrey didn't score that day.

That was Alick's 6th game back, and it took him 15 games before he scored his first goal - it was becoming to be a real monkey on his back. When he did finally score his first against Rochdale at BV I was away on a family holiday and missed it. His first goal was one of 4 in the last 8 games of the season, and the next season was when he really got going......... and was top goalscorer in the land.

Didn't he share that with Robin Stubbs of Torquay Dutch?
He took penalties for Torquay whereas Alick rarely took them for us.

IIRC Alick and Stubbs both scored 39 in all competitions, but Alick's 36 in the League meant he was on his own as top league scorer

Dutch, I haven’t checked but I was at the game when Alick scored his first goal after his comeback and from memory, wasn’t it against Hartlepool in a 2-2 draw, the game after the Rochdale one.
I seem to recall that he smashed one into the top corner at the Rossi end and we all ran onto the pitch.

Sorry Hound - my mistake - you are absolutely right - it was Hartlepools, in between the two Rochdale matches. I missed them all with our holiday visiting family in Wales. My best friend at the time was at the match, but had just broken his leg which was in a plaster cast. I can still remember him telling me how upset he was he couldn't get the plaster cast over the wall to get on the pitch wth everyone else.

I seem to recall that in about 1954 we played Newcastle Utd. in a midweek friendly and stuffed them 7-2! I think that the game was part of the deal for the transfer of Bill Patterson, our centre half at the time. A fee of about £22,000 was agreed. I wonder what that equates to in today's money?!
