The 2012/13 side didn't exactly have an abundance of pace.

I agree, roversdude. Most of the time it looks like we play walking football. A 50-50 ball is when one of our players is 2 yards from the ball and an opponent is 5 yards away.

On the few occasions we up the pace we look dangerous but soon return to looking like a group of slugs on Valium. unfortunately, that has become our default setting.

Alfie May has pace but there's rarely anybody quick enough to get the ball to him.

If he was any quicker he'd be offside before the ball was delivered. By the time it is delivered the defence has had the time to go for a shit and a shave before regaining possession.

He got 2 to three yards the goal side of the Oxford centre half twice just over the half way line, also in the arsenal game he did it to Mertesacker ,not noted for pace.
Both players got back to him and took the ball off him, over 5 yds maybe, over any longer distance he has not got a lot of pace.

Alfie's one of the few players with pace in the team, and he's being singled out as one of the problems for the team's lack of pace!

I bet if Fergie read this forum at least he would get some humour from threads like this as opposed to the more doomier and gloomier ones!

Yes saw him on the first day of preseason he has pace to burn. Hopefully the illness he had won’t effect him, but at moment it’s an unknown.

I don't think The 2012/13 side didn't exactly have an abundance of pace,

I've swapped that for you.

You're basically saying the 2012/13 did have an abundance of pace!  ;)

I presume you're on about Lee Folwer sprinting to the snack bar when he heard about the new delivery of chicken balti pies.

Lee Fowler was one of the fattest players I've ever seen in the professional game, Jesus.

We have one player who has pace that is Blair. We need more.

We have another who could give Blair ten yards start and is probably one of the quickest in the Football League.
But he's been seriously ill and not ready to return yet.
We've been dreadfully unlucky with injuries and that should not be forgotten.

We can't go on blaming injuries for us not succeeding.

In 2010-11, when we nosedived under SO'D in the second half of the season and stayed up because the bottom three were utterly useless, injuries were used as an excuse.
In 2011-12, when we went down, people blamed injuries.
In 2013-14, when we went down again, people blamed the injuries - especially in defence.
In 2015-16, injuries were again used as an excuse in some quarters.

We should have learned by now that nobody is going to feel sorry for us, just because we have more than a few injuries.

If anything, if we know now, in December, that we have an injury list that's somewhat lengthy, it should be the biggest motivational kick up the arse for the manager/board to go out and sign some more players and strengthen.

If we go down, we can't blame injuries. We'll go down because 21 other clubs have been better than us over the course of the season.

I have no doubt that other clubs suffer as much as we do with injuries.
Because we don’t follow their fortunes closely we just don’t know as much about them.

Depends what you mean by pace.

The tempo we play the game/the speed of thought and execution?

Alfie is quick over a short distance whereas Blair can sustain his pace on a longer run. Some players we've seen in the past had blistering pace but not much else.

I do however think we have a lack of pace/a change of pace in midfield. Their little fella on Saturday showed how you can open things up by being quick over 5, 10, 15 yards and being good with the ball.
