If we only played 85 minutes
« on December 17, 2017, 12:29:41 am by andysly »
Instead of a record of won 6 drawn 6 lost 10 - scored 22 conceded 27 - pts 24
we would have won 9 drawn 7 lost 6 - scored 22 conceded 20 - pts 33 and  8th in league.

Just thought I'd work it out while having a quiet moment.
We've only scored once in the last 10 minutes, and from memory that was the 3rd goal at Plymouth so no difference made.

And 8th would be about right based on our respective budgets.

Would this then not show that he’s underperforming with the budget he has been given SM?

I’ve been supporting him all season and trying to think positive but now I’m starting to get a bit hacked off with performances and how we keep collapsing.

But we don't. And we are where we are on merit

I feel sorry most of all for our generous owners who are paying hand over fist for mediocrity, at best.

Do you really need to go around all the posts sticking up for your mate? I'm sure he can look after himself.

In response to your silly point, im not constantly going on about the same thing every week, regardless of the reasons why! How you can speak about the budget after the squad we had out yesterday god only knows

Maybe it’s down to the total of six league wins approaching the halfway stage of the season. That statastic is not down to yesterdays squad availability.

I think it shows were not a bad team and with that final ingredient we'll be a top half team WITH this manager. In January we need a couple of players that fix that problem then some Summer signings that make us play off challengers.

That's a different subject!

The post was
"Not good enough again" "top half budget"

And 8th would be about right based on our respective budgets.

So we didn't have a top six budget after all then?
Just one good enough to idle around in League 1 just above half way and not build on the momentum we had last season, while Club Doncaster goes from strength to strength.
How many years are left now on the five-year plan to reach the Championship?

Too much emphasis on budget for me, look at Shrewsbury one of lowest budgets in league then look at bury one of biggest budgets in the league

Have you any idea what Manchester City's budget is and look where they are?
There is a correlation.

With the budget they have they should be winning the Champions League every year, how many have they won?

I think you'll find Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are at least on a par and PSG won't be far behind.

Is that how long we have to wait before the manager is given a budget to win promotion then?

Bayern Munich don't spend money like Man City,

That's one example, in every league there's examples of sides spending money that are struggling.

It has an impact but it's not everything

Have Burnley got the 6th biggest budget in the prem?

Who said we did? Most people will remember that at the last Meet the Owners event the Chair said we had a competitive budget. That would be OK to interpret as a top 10 finish wouldn't it?

With so many goals being scored in the last few minutes of matches you would have to know how all the other teams would have done to make a statement like that stick.
Plenty of other teams have conceded in the last few minutes and the teams that scored late goals could also have gone higher than us.
The league table doesn’t lie after twenty odd games.

I’m going to write to the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen and insist that Bramall puts more of his cash into the club, or buggers off and lets it be taken over by...

...oh. Hang on a minute.

I think the understandable expectation is thathat the budget is competitive and the manager wrings that bit extra out of the team - in Championship I would imagine our budget was consistently relegation, but SOD turned water in to wine and kept us for a number of seasons ending around the middle third. This is the value add of a good manager.

At present we have a top eight budget and yet have never got anywhere near that this season.

CBCB

It’s often forgotten though that O’Driscoll inherited a squad that had been carefully built over several years. In our first Championship season under O’Driscoll, 5 of the players he’d inherited made 28 or more appearances (Guy, Heffernan, O’Connor, Coppinger and Roberts). Another two made 22 appearances (Price and Lockwood).

He inherited a strong squad that had just missed out on the play-offs for 2 seasons. He was able to build on that because of off field stability.

 Stability is a huge bonus.

Compare that with the past few years.

10/11 Almost in play-offs at Xmas. Team ripped apart through an injury crisis. We get 15 points from the last 24 games and finish one place above relegation.
11/12 Experiment. Board crisis. Change of manager. Relegation.
12/13 Team is torn apart and re-built from scratch. We throw together a squad to get us out of L1. Board crisis. Change of manager.
13/14 Change of manager. Sequentia Capital/Ryan chaos. Ryan resigns. Squad is torn apart through injury. We get relegated with the last kick of the season.
14/15. Crowdfunder farce. Squad is entirely re-built after relegation. We under achieve.
15/16. Very poor additions to the squad. Change of manager. Relegation.
16/17. Squad is hugely overhauled. Promotion.
17/18...

That’s the thick end of a decade of chaos.

When O’Driscol took us to the Championship, it was on the back of a decade of careful, organic growth. We’d improved our league finishing  position every year but one from 98/99 to 07/08. That massively helps. O’Driscoll (despite his comments about having to entirely change the culture of the club) was the finish touch on a very long path.

I wonder what O’Driscoll would have achieved had he taken over in the Boardroom chaos of 12/13 or 14/15 or if he’d inherited the squad that Ferguson did in 15/16?
