Andy Butler
« on December 30, 2017, 12:32:05 am by Prez »
I wrote him off after the end of last season. I was wrong. VERY wrong. Been quality this season as have the other centre halves. Not only that, but the sense of pride he has for the town and his work/visits in the local community, is a true credit to himself and the club. Interesting looking at the table only 5 teams have conceded less than us, makes it even more impressive when our full back areas are not the strongest.  :scarf:

Good shout.

He has been brilliant these last few games and was immense again tonight.

Only 4 teams have conceded less than us and 1 the same as us.
Butler is player of the season for me up to now.
He has proved me so wrong also.
I am currently eating humble pie, two portions of it. He has looked a yard quicker this season.
As you say a credit to the club with all his off field work in the community also.

You are right, only 4, perhaps I meant we have the 5th best defence. Or I cant count after 1 can of John Smiths ha.

He's been my player of the season so far. He's so consistent week in week out. He does what's needed for a dominant centre half. Not many players get much change out of him.

When players and staff were discussing how well certain players had come back from the off-season break, wasn't Butler mentioned as the fittest player of them all? I bet that's made a difference, can see the amount of effort and passion he puts into everything. An absolute rock and I'd agree he's our Player of the Season at the midway point.

When you think about it, all the players must have rock solid faith in him, as they rarely give him any respite. First half tonight he probably thought, "Thanks lads, you've made it easy for me"

Second half, he's saying "You set of t**ts!"

By my reckoning we've got the joint 6th best defensive record in the division at the moment. No small part down to Butler who's also improved massively on the ball under DF.

FWIW only the top four and Gillingham have conceded less than us in the league. I thought our defence had been OK but didn't realise it had been quite that good.

How slow must Calvin Andrew be when Butler out paced him?

He's been fantastic this season. Great performances as well as quite clearly improving Joe Wright.

Despite him being our player though, I kind of want to throw a brick at him. Just to see if the theory is true

I thought this was an interesting stat. In the 6 games we played in December we only conceded 2 goals. One of them was in the 88th minute and the other in the 96th.

Someone should point this out to that bloke who always rips into him virtually from kick off at the top of the south stand every other week.

He sits just behind me mate.
Apparently Andy isn’t good enough to play in a Sunday league team.

When not able to get to matches I watch games at home on I follow .. Since there is no commentary you get the stadium noise and atmosphere including the comments from those closest to the mikes in West stand . You get used to the same voices and their routine shouts . One guy delivers regularly ' Gerrin to 'im ' . I can tell the bloke's wife .. your husband was NOT at Keepmoat last night .
Last night it was almost as if the West stand had read the outrageous criticisms of Marquis on here because his every stride ( about 10 km worth ) was supported .

He's also much improved on the ball. Credit to the coaching staff for working on that with him and shows even older players can still make improvements to their game.

I thought Butler was a liability in 2015/16.

Last year he looked a decent defender at Div 4 level but with flaws that you knew would see him exposed at a higher level.

This year, he has looked like a different man. An excellent defender at this level. Like a new signing.

Commented on Butler's fitness after we watched the lads training on the first day back, 2 players stood out for their physique and fitness, Butler and Williams.

The other eye popping moment was when they did a sprint across the pitch and Kiwomya was across the other side before the rest were halfway across. Of course, we all know what happened next.

AB has been a credit to both himself and the Club, so far this season.

It's like watching a different player, seems to have gained pace & doesn't give the opposing striker a second on the ball, our most consistent player this season in my opinion.

Kiwomya did 100m in 10.98 secs at 14 years old
