Two random statistics
« on January 05, 2018, 07:27:44 pm by Dutch Uncle »
Following the disappointing transfer news this week, two random stats - one (Houghton) arising, and one (Whiteman) disappearing.....

The (hopefully only temporary) loss of Ben Whiteman means we now have only 3 players on the books at the same time who have scored a hattrick for the club – Copps (with 2), Andy Williams and John Marquis. Prior to Ben’s departure, when we had four such players, this was the first time this had occurred since 1977 (Peter Kitchen, Brendan O’Callaghan, Alan Murray and Ian Miller). Prior to that have to go back to 1947 when there were no fewer than 6 players on the books with a Rovers hattrick to their name. Prior to WW2 there were another 3 occasions, making only 6 occasions in our history. (By the way, in the 1950’s on a couple of occasions we had 3 players on the books with a hattrick for the club, in addition to manager Peter Doherty who also had a hattrick when he had been player-manager.)

Jordan Houghton’s extended loan means he has the chance to become the Rovers leading appearance maker….. as a loanee. He currently has 52 League appearances (58 in all competitions) which puts him (as far as I can see) in second place behind Jonathan Forte (54 league appearances, 66 in all competitions) and above Billy Sharp who made 49 league appearances (51 in all competitions) during his loan spells with us.

Someone’s been doing some home work.
Agreed, really interesting stats. Houghton should break the loan record this month in all probability.

I am hoping not Campsall........... on the grounds he has signed permanently in the meantime. I am hoping the statistician's version of the commentator's curse kicks in.  ;)

Thank you for the kind words, but I don't see it as homework because I don't see it as 'work' of any kind. Having spent my entire working life providing analysis and data for others it is great to be retired and looking at DRFC - something so dear to me.

I have a feeling we won’t get him permamently until the summer.
Will give DF more budget in January as Chelsea will be paying a large chunk of his wages. We now need to replace Whiteman and in my opinion could do with 2 more additions on top.

Yes I will ditto that. It is appreciated I love all these stats.
Williams, Kiwomya and McCullough still unknown quantaties due to injuries.
If they were 100% then we may be ok.

McCullough coming back and Kiwomya getting fit to play will, in reality, be like getting two new players.

But only if they are ok and don’t break down again!

Unless he gets crocked, Houghton will comfortably break the barrier for loanee appearances.

DU
assuming you can keep some of these facts in your head
are you any good at general knowledge we could get you on Mastermind with  :rtid: as your specialist subject
there are books out there to swot on the type of questions you get on general knowledge
would be good publicity for the club   :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:
