Its good to see England bashing the Aussies and I would settle for a Series win now irrespective of score

Unlikely to lose it now and unlikely to get 5-0 but hey what do I know ! Go 3-0 up and they might be under such pressure that we can win the lot.

A good showing from the Yorkshire contingent again too. As you say a win on Sunday and the Aussies will be doubting themselves. They like batting first and we like chasing but they may have to change things round. Our batting is so strong and Joe Root is holding it all together nicely. He will be loving getting one over on the Aussies after the Ashes. They haven't got him out yet !

Makes me wonder whether we should play the ODI team in the tests. They couldn't do worse and might do a lot better.

There's certainly a case for Buttler, Plunkett and Rashid being in the Test squad. And I'd have picked Hales ahead of Vince anyway.

He's not a great ODI batsman because he needs time to play himself in and he's not great at keeping the scoreboard moving in the way Joe Root does.

England's big problem with Smith was that they never had a plan for him. This comes back to the fact that Bayliss is basically a White Ball coach (which is why he was hired with the aim of winning the 2019 World Cup). He doesn't have much to offer in the Test arena.

England's players get on fine when the conditions suit their skillsets. When you go to Australia or India you have to come up with some different plans. Duncan Fletcher was good at this and had a couple of real thinking captains in Hussain and Vaughan. Root is still rather inexperienced as a captain and if you're not getting input from the coach the team will fall back on what they do most of the time.

He's number 13 in the ODI world rankings, the only English player above him is Root

Has a lower ranking in ODIs than tests though. My point is though that in ODIs England have plans for all opponents. Did we have a plan for Smith in Tests? If we did, I couldn't discern it.

True, for me in the Tests we allowed him to settle far to easily, in ODI's he has n't got that time to settle, across all formats Root is the better batsman in my opinion

A seemingly bad innings recovered well by Woakes and Buttler to a brilliant 302 !!! for 6

Loved the last 4 overs and even better the last Over Woakes on 48 Buttler on 98 and a few short of 300 - all good milestones and they managed the lot Woakes got his 50 dropped the Bat an the 5th Ball of the over for a single and Buttler then on strike clubbed the last ball for a 2

So a 50 a Hundred and over 300

England Bowling now but disappointed as 2 balls gone and no wickets yet .... BOO

Made me laugh watching him troop off, I can remember a couple of similar decisions in the test series that went against us, so suck it up Smithy yer out.

Also noticed that Smith was fined 20% of his match fee and the rest of the team 10% of theirs for slow over rate. It goes from bad to worse for them 😀

I read your earlier post and was going to say just what you did here. He walked and then came back when the Umpires called for a review and then walked off shaking his head - Unbelievable Jeff

Confession of a nearly 67 yo. I was going to make a Tea and as he walked off I stood by my Telly with my Finger raised "Umpire style" 

There was not enough evidence however to overturn the soft decision. I like everybody including 3rd Umpire saw it again and again and it was impossible to tell. Perhaps Jos B still does not even know even now.

  When you have 5 nasty buggers bowling at 90+ mph like the West Indies did,you get ex batsmen like Edrich saying that was not cricket.
  It was more exciting to watch though, than putting the ball on the end of the bat to smack for six.
