Some promising youngsters
« on January 22, 2018, 07:43:44 pm by JonWallsend »
I saw the last half hour of the U16 Academy side playing at Newcastle on Saturday. Finished 2-2. Rovers gave as good as they got, while I was there, and talking to a few people who had seen the game, they said we probably deserved the win.

Newcastle coaches were impressed with the way that Rovers players had got in their faces. Newcastle did play a couple of u15's a year up but was otherwise a strong side.  The game was played indoors on the 3G and technically there was very little in it. If you consider that these are the lads that the respective clubs will be looking to offer 2 year scholar deals to, then I was really impressed.

A couple of big lads at the back for Rovers but not a huge physical team by any means. I've seen that Newcastle side turn Brighton, Sunderland and Liverpool over this season so it was an impressive result against a premier one academy set up.

Not sure how many of that Newcastle team will break through at the Premier league level, although the two lads who played up are outstanding, but confident that a few of our squad will come through and make the grade.
