Jamie McDonnell

Oh dear. Did anyone see how gaunt he looked? Liam Hoden said that he was barely recognisable and he wasn’t joking. Looked in really awful shape. Fair play for taking this on but in hindsight a really bad call to go in looking like that. Hope he moves up now.

He looked ok come fight time, looked bad at the weigh in though. He was fighting one of the pound for pound best as well, he’ll move up to featherweight now probably.

He was 8 and half stone at weigh in and put 26 pounds on before the fight.
I think I have done 2 weeks all inclusive and not out 26 pounds on.

Well beaten, his opponent was ruthless.

Think he’s struggled to make the weight for a while now, last time he fought locally he was almost resident in the sauna at moathouse

If he's struggling to make the weight he needs to go up a category. There are few things more damaging to a boxer's long term health than a constant struggle to make a weight. It usually means fighting while dehydrated, which is the last thing you want to do.

I've always had a lot of time for Jamie because he has been a great ambassador for Doncaster and he comes from my old stamping ground. But his health has to come first.
