Grant McCann
« on June 25, 2018, 10:50:42 pm by Dare to dream! »
Looking like he will be our new manager, his odds have dropped substantially today.

The poll results from earlier we 87/7 in favour of McCall, may not go down well but I think he would be a decent appointment

From another thread:

Some interesting, if a little worrying, observations in the following link. Certainly some of the comparisons to be drawn with Ferguson’s confusing formations and reliance on a single goal scorer. https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/posh/swanny-on-mccann-sacking-confused-thinking-and-poor-planning-made-a-managerial-change-inevitable-1-8392898

I would certainly much prefer McCall. But if it is to be McCann then hopefully he’s learned from his time at Peterborough and can get us playing.

Yes, would agree McCall looks a better option.

Reading that article what concerns me is that McCann seems to have a substantial budget behind him and still wasn’t successful

He's a young manager, he will learn as he goes. Whether he's to be our new manager or not, I hope that the fans give that new manager support. Because we won't get anywhere as a club and team if we aren't united together.

I for one always support the manager. I sometimes wish the owners appointed a manager who was easier to support though.

Aye but he'll still be the cheap option to some!

2/1, still trailing McCall who is on 4/6.

Betvictor are 3/1 McCann and 2/5 McCall so still just favours McCall in the betting (as do I!), but it seems to be getting closer. At least Caldwell’s out to 16/1 so seems unlikely now. Maybe they’ve just found out McCann is one of the finalists and have dropped his price accordingly?

There will always be leaks. If not from the club, then from someone on the side of the candidate or their representative. Word gets around and money gets lumped on.

While McCall still remains favourite (which he still is) I’ll remain hopeful. But his odds have drifted out a bit and McCann’s have come in.

It’s hard to see what McCann has over McCall. We’ll see what happens I guess.

His record is underwhelming and it’s a big surprise that he’s seemingly beaten McCall in the reckoning. Must have said some encouraging things at interviews so let’s hope he puts them into practice.

On the assumption that he is to be our new manager, I’ll fully support him no matter what my reservations are over this.

My thoughts exactly Jonathan. It is more if a gamble than McCall, definitely, but maybe they liked certain aspects of his character or ambitions more. Maybe McCall didn't seem as fully committed? All just musings these of course.

He's young, so I'm not going to put as much stock in his past record as I would someone with a decade odd under their belt in management. Managers at this age and stage of their career tend to go one way or another. He perhaps feels like the best "continuity" candidate to follow on from the Ferguson era, since the board never intended to be having to move on from that plan so soon.

Shit, this better not be right.
How a failed Peterborough manager is better than mcall, Grayson, hopkin etc is beyond me.  :headbang:

I suggest everyone reads the attached article before getting excited. If you thought DF was bad, get ready.

It is worrying. McCall was known for playing attractive attacking football and got some good results from it. It’s a concern to see the inference that McCann’s Peterborough team was lacking in consistency, fluidity or purpose. But presumably the two stage interview got to the bottom of how this will be rectified going forward. As RoversAlias says, McCann is young enough to learn and let’s hope for our sake that he has / does.

It is certainly an appointment in hope more than anticipation.

Equally some clubs didn't rate Penney or SOD.  Wouldn't be my choice i have to say but give the guy a chance it's only his second job if he gets it. Plus his stats aren't that bad!

Well with McCann's record for all the DF doubters it's a case of be careful what you wish for.. totally underwhelmed by this appointment.. a backward step bigtime if it's the case.

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/fuming-doesnt-cut-it-fans-react-after-grant-mccann-sacked-as-peterborough-boss-36644177.html

There is also this to go along with the Peterborough Today article, there is always two sides to a story!! Interesting that they only had lost 2 in 12 before sacking him, if draws went against us we would have had a revolving door of managers this past few years!! (tongue in cheek)

Good luck to the bloke if it is indeed him!
